Robert Young '15 was presented the Charles
Alessandro Family Citadel Scholar Award at the
Senior Awards Program. The award comes from the generosity of a family with long-standing ties to Wilson Hall and a devotion to The Citadel. Mr.
Charles Alessandro, an active alumnus of The
Citadel, his wife, Burgees, their two daughters,
Ashley Alessandro Clarke ’88 and Mary Margaret Alessandro Kilpatrick ’91 , and their husbands, fund the scholarship. The scholarship is awarded to the senior who will enroll in The
Citadel for his freshman year.
Kate Whaley '16 was presented the
Washington & Lee University Book Award during the Upper School Awards Program.
The book award is given to a rising senior who exemplifies the strengths and characteristics of W&L, including personal integrity, academic excellence and significant campus involvement.
Mr. Fred
Moulton , headmaster, presented the award on behalf of Bess DuRant ’98 , a representative of the Palmetto Chapter of the W&L Alumni Board of Directors.
Each year the student who achieves the highest score on the SAT receives the honor of being named the Star
Student, and this year the honor went to Raines
Waggett '15 . In turn, the student has the great privilege of choosing the
Star Teacher, who is one of the faculty members who has greatly influenced his or her education at Wilson Hall.
Raines chose Mr. Scott
Warren , French teacher.
The Star Student and
Star Teacher each presented speeches at the
Senior Awards Program.
Star Student Raines Waggett ’15 and Mr. Scott Warren, Star Teacher, pause for a photo after the Senior Awards Program.
Mr. Chuck McCord , who teaches Advanced Placement Chemistry, chemistry, and philosophy, was chosen by the Class of 2015 as the keynote speaker for the 12th annual Last Day Luncheon. Each year the seniors choose a teacher who has had a significant impact on their educational careers at Wilson Hall to deliver the keynote speech at the luncheon.
The lunch, to which the parents are invited, is a celebration of the last day of classes for the seniors.
Held in the Nash Student Center, the catered lunch is coordinated by Mrs. Laura Barr and Mrs. Karen
McCreight.
Prior to Mr. McCord’s speech, Mr. Sean Hoskins spoke to the crowd about Wilson Hall and the students’ relationship to the school.
Following the lunch, the students returned to their last class of the day before gathering in the office to deliver final messages over the public address system. After several heartfelt farewells that included reflections of their time at Wilson Hall and advice for the underclassmen, the seniors gathered in the hallway with the rest of the high school students to sing the Alma Mater. As the last bell rang for the day, the visibly emotional seniors shared hugs and laughter with their friends as their final day of high school came to a close.
