Dear Friends,
2014 marks our 30th year in business, and so far it’s
shaping up to be a memorable year.
In February, we were presented with the Operator of
the Year award in front of a 3700 delegate convention
for both the United Motorcoach Association and the
National Tour Association in Los Angeles. We were
chosen from over 900 operator members, and were
honoured “for industry contributions and success in
running one of the most well-regarded bus companies
in North America.”
The same week, we were honoured to receive the
Greater Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce
Award of Excellence in the category of Environment and
Sustainability. This meaningful award was in recognition
of our green initiatives with our building, motorcoach
operation and our “Think Green...Go Blue” campaign.
We hope you enjoy browsing through this catalogue.
We are thrilled to feature NEW destinations such
as Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Manitoulin Island,
Christmas in Cleveland, the International Auto Show
in Detroit, the famed Daytona 500 NASCAR race, Little
River Casino in Michigan, “Thunder over Louisville,”
and the Monarch Migration in Point Pelee. We also
have an exciting slate of one-day getaways if you’re
short on time.
We are THRILLED to announce that beginning this fall,
you can look forward to FREE wifi on all of our coaches on
the overnight tours featured in this catalogue. Keeping in
touch with home and friends has never been easier!
As you browse through this catalogue, we hope you
find just what you’re looking for. We look forward to
providing you and your friends with worry-free, fun and
environmentally responsible travel. Thank you for your
gratifying, continued support and for a wonderful 30

We Are Honoured...
We received two major awards during the same week this past February. Larry and Lorna
Hundt, co-owners of Great Canadian Holidays & Coaches, were presented with the Motorcoach Operator of the Year award in front of a 3700 delegate convention for both UMA
(United Motorcoach Association) and NTA (National Tour Association) in Los Angeles. They
were honoured “for industry contributions and success in running one of the most wellregarded bus companies in North America.” They were chosen from over 900 North American operator members of the United Motorcoach Association. The Hundts, along with their
family and entire staff, were honoured to have received this award as well as the K-W Chamber of Commerce’s Award of Excellence in the category of Environment and Sustainability,
accepted by Andrea Hundt Lorentz.
Operator of the Year: METRO Magazine named
Larry and Lorna Hundt, owners of Great Canadian Holidays & Coaches, as the winner of its
Motorcoach Operator of the Year Award.
METRO VP, bus, rail/Publisher Frank Di Giacomo
presented the award to the Hundts, who were
joined by their daughter Michelle Hundt Tupman,
director of tour operations, at the United Motorcoach Association’s Expo at Travel Exchange in
Los Angeles on Wednesday.
In business for more than 30 years, Great
Canadian had other operators run their coaches
when they first started out and have since grown
to a top-notch operation with 52 motorcoaches,
with partnerships with more than 30 other tour
companies, which they now operate coaches for.
Primarily providing tours, motorcoach rentals and
vehicle maintenance from its own state-of-the-art
facility, Great Canadian’s operation also features
vehicles that stand out with unique, original and
patriotic artwork.
A critical aspect of our
winner’s success has been their ability to constantly be innovative in creating new tours to
adapt to its customers’ ever-evolving interests.
In his acceptance speech, Larry Hundt credited
his wife, family and employees for their dedicated
support, while Lorna credited her husband’s hard
work and determination over the years.
Kitchener-Waterloo Chamber of Commerce
Business Excellence Award – Environment
and Sustainability: Andrea Hundt Lorentz
accepted the “Environment and Sustainability“
Award at the Chamber’s Gala. Great Canadian’s
countless green initiatives through their “Think
Green….Go Blue“ program includes: installing 336 solar panels on their roof, upgrading
of office and garage facility lighting to high
efficiency lights, installing above-ground tanks to
collect rainwater for coach and truck washing,
incentivizing drivers to reduce idling to meet
strict guidelines and many more.
The Greenest Way to Travel!
Study after study confirms what we’ve known all along...motor
coach travel is the environment’s best friend. At a whopping 420
passenger miles per gallon, each one of our “big blue coaches”
takes the place of approximately 35 cars on the road. Our coaches
are more fuel efficient than cars, trains and even airplanes.
Thirty years and
counting!
We are proud to be celebrating our 30th year in business in 2014. From our very
humble beginnings, we have
grown to over 170 employees, and our fleet of 50
coaches is set to grow again
this year. With our tour business flourishing and our fleet
services rapidly growing, the
future is bright. Our dedicated and capable staff is
undoubtedly the key to our
success, and we are grateful to this talented group of
people who make us proud
every single day.
It’s not just our staff we’re
proud of…our friends and
suppliers in the industry
consistently tell us that our
clients and travellers are
their favourite groups – that
they are fun, respectful, confident, and happy. But we’ve
known that all along!
Thanks for a great thirty
years!

sightseeing included, this delightful tour offers excellent value. Space will sell quickly, so we

Day One – Springfield: Our first day takes us
into New York State, crossing the Hudson River
into New England’s scenic Berkshire Mountains.
Day Two – Hyannis: Today we visit the exciting port city of Newport. Following lunch in
Newport’s popular waterfront Brick Marketplace,
a local guide joins us for a guided tour. Feast
your eyes on the many summer mansions built
during the 1800s. A tour of the “Breakers”, the
Vanderbilt summer home, is planned. We then
travel through the scenic countryside to the
sandy shores of Cape Cod, our home for the
next four days. The “arm” of Cape Cod reaches
70 miles into the Atlantic and has become one
of America’s most popular resort areas. Upon arriving on the Cape, we will be welcomed by our
local guide and treated to a welcome reception
before dinner.
Day Three – Nantucket: This morning we board
a ferry to the stunning island of Nantucket. In
1966, the entire Nantucket Historic District was
added to the National Register of Historic Places.
The streets are brick and cobblestone (wear appropriate footwear). The heritage and history of this
upscale island come alive during a narrated tour,
followed by free time to enjoy the delightful shops,
museums and restaurants, all within easy walking distance. Upon returning to the mainland, we
enjoy a lobster dinner (alternative entrée available).
Day Four – Provincetown, Whale Watching
Cruise: After a hearty breakfast, we retrace the
paths of the Pilgrims as we venture to the very
tip of Cape Cod, Provincetown. Also known
as “Land’s End”, Provincetown was the actual
first landing place of the early settlers in 1620.
Enjoy the New England architecture as we drive
through colonial villages on the way. This afternoon an exciting whale watching cruise is in store
for us. These beautiful mammals feed alongside
the cruise ship’s path, so sightings are frequent.
Many people consider this cruise the highlight of
their vacation!
Day Five – Plymouth & Sandwich: After breakfast we visit Sandwich, Cape Cod’s oldest town
and world-renowned for its 19th century glass.
Continuing to Plymouth, we see famous Plymouth Rock and the Mayflower II. In Sandwich, the
Cape’s oldest village, we visit a world-renowned
glass museum. We enjoy dinner with entertainment this evening.
Day Six – Boston, Kennedy Museum, Albany:
Breakfast begins our day before we depart for
the exciting city of Boston. Our journey first takes
us to the Kennedy Library and Museum where
we explore the memorabilia, for an inside look at
the “Camelot Years.” A local guide will give us
an in depth look at this bustling city. On Boston’s
waterfront, we visit exquisite Quincy Market, full
of exciting eateries and shops to delight everyone. We spend the night in Albany.
Day Seven – Home: Travelling homeward today,
we have time to enjoy the beauty of the passing
scenery and to savour the memories of our New
England holiday.
“This was another excellent tour. This is our fifth tour with Great Canadian and we look
forward to many more. Having everything taken care of is wonderful! Shuttles and
luggage handling are also great features of your company. Well done and please keep
on doing tours!” - Eric & Linda Ross

island just as we have. Every year this coach and
cruise tour sells out – please make your travel

this afternoon on Royal Caribbean’s Grandeur
of the Seas for a spectacular six-night cruise.
The ship is a delight, featuring pools, lounges,
multiple incredible dining options, amazing entertainment, a casino, boutique shopping, and so
much more. There are enough activities going on
to keep you as busy as you’d like, but also many
inviting places to rest and relax.
The ship docks at King’s Wharf in Bermuda for
a delightful two-night stay. There will be many
optional shore excursions offered, or simply
explore on your own. It’s easy to do with the
plentiful and friendly cabs and buses, and with
no language barrier, it couldn’t be easier to do
whatever you please. Have a refreshing rum
swizzle at a local roadside pub, take a walking

dollar is the official currency, and is on par with
the U.S. dollar. Your Great Canadian tour director will also be on hand throughout to assist you
with your planning.
After six nights of pampering aboard the Grandeur of the Seas, we return to Baltimore, where
we meet our Great Canadian coach for an enjoyable drive to Corning, NY. We spend our last
night together here and enjoy a farewell dinner.

Pelee Island & Monarch Migration
NEW
TOUR
Come see a very special part of Ontario with us this summer; Pelee Island is not
only the most southern point in Canada, it is also a mecca for birdwatchers, home
to excellent wine, and dotted with serene beaches. In addition to a day spent on this lovely
island, we also take the renowned Rum Runners Tour, which is sure to be a highlight. Come
along for a fun three days of seeing the best of southern Ontario!
Day One – To Windsor: We join our travelling
companions and make our way to Parks Blueberries this morning. Growing blueberries for over
30 years, they are not just a farm but also a café,
bakeshop and country store. Enjoy exploring, and
be sure to partake of their famous, scratch baking.
We then visit Walkers Candies, where a tour will
show us how they’ve been making hand-dipped
truffles and other delectable treats for over ninety
years. Late this afternoon, we check into our lovely
hotel, located right on the riverfront in Windsor.
This evening, you can choose to relax at the hotel
or join us for either shopping at a local mall or
gaming at spectacular Caesars Windsor.
Day Two – Pelee Island: We board a ferry this
morning for the relaxing trip across Lake Erie to
Pelee Island, where we’ll spend the day enjoying
this special place. This is as far south as you can
travel while remaining in Canada, and is home
to some spectacular natural areas. It’s a hotspot
Mont Tremblant
for migrating birds, and you’ll often see amazing
species here that you won’t see at home. The climate here is milder than the mainland, resulting
in excellent conditions for growing grapes. While
on the island, we’ll visit Pelee Island Winery for
a tour, tasting, and included lunch. We’ll spend
some time touring the island and soaking in the
natural wonders of the island before returning by
ferry to the mainland.
Day Three – Rum Runners Tour: Today, an
exciting tour will bring us back to the prohibition
days in the 1920s, when Windsor was a main
supplier of illegal liquor to the likes of Al Capone
and other mobsters. Windsor’s bootlegging
stories are colourful and fascinating, and this tour
will bring it all to life, along with a lot of fun. See
the famous Canadian Club Heritage Centre and
sample some whiskey, have an included lunch,
and so much more. This afternoon, we make our
way home with wonderful memories.

Indianapolis.
Day Two – To Branson: The lovely midwest
scenery takes us through Illinois and into the
state of Missouri. We spend three nights in Branson at the Grand Country Resort. A breakfast

Days Three & Four – Branson: Branson is home
to a wide range of musical performers. During our stay, we’ll see the ever-popular Daniel
O’Donnell, the Oak Ridge Boys, and the Grand

Silver Dollar City, with multiple live shows from
Bluegrass to Broadway, exhibits and craftsmen
working in this beautiful park setting. We will

us all the sights of the Branson area, in the beautiful Ozark Mountains. A free afternoon has also
been scheduled so you can see another show, do
some shopping or visit an attraction. Your tour
director will assist you with all the details.
Day Five – To Memphis: Bidding farewell to
the Ozarks, we travel south to the “Home of the
Blues and the Birthplace of Rock & Roll”, Memphis, Tennessee. We visit Beale Street, where it all
began. The Blues first rang out over the cotton
fields of the Mississippi Delta. It migrated to the
streets and clubs of Memphis. It went on to influence the sound of music all over the world. Beale
Street’s heyday was in the roaring 20s, when its
carnival atmosphere featured booming nightclubs, theatres, restaurants, stores, pawnshops
and incredible music. While considerably tamer
today, Beale Street still has over 25 clubs and
shops, including BB King’s Blues Club. We spend
the night in Memphis.
Day Six – To Nashville: This morning we visit
Graceland, the mansion of Elvis Presley. Still furnished as it was when he lived there, Graceland
offers a glimpse into the lifestyle of one of the
world’s most recognized and influential musicians. An audio tour of the mansion and grounds
is followed by the short drive to Nashville, often
called “Music City U.S.A.”. After we check
into our hotel we attend a live performance of
the Grand Ole Opry. What began as a simple
radio broadcast in 1925 on WSM radio is today
a live-entertainment phenomenon. Dedicated
to honouring country music’s rich history and
dynamic present, the Grand Ole Opry showcases
a mix of country legends and the contemporary
chart-toppers who have followed in their footsteps. Performers are rarely announced until they
appear on stage, and it’s always exciting to see
what stars we will see.
Day Seven – Nashville: A local guide joins us to
show us the best of Nashville, showing us some
homes of famous stars, and all of its best-known
landmarks. This afternoon we visit the Opry Mills
shopping complex where you’re sure to find
some bargains. You may wish to join the group
for an optional evening of fun at a local nightclub
this evening.

Trapp Family Lodge Vermont Christmas
“The hills are alive with the sound of music!” It’s easy to see why this area of Vermont appealed to Georg von Trapp, when he arrived in America with his bride Maria and their many
children. Looking much like the hills of his beloved Austria, he settled in Stowe, Vermont, and
built a beautiful lodge. After an unfortunate fire destroyed it, his family rebuilt a new and
ultra-modern replacement, and it has recently undergone another major renovation. Come
along and see why this has been one of our favourite long-standing Christmas destinations.
Day One – to Montreal: Our first day takes us
into the cosmopolitan city of Montreal, where
we spend one night downtown. You may wish
to visit the Montreal Casino this evening, or do
some shopping on St. Catherine Street.
Days Two and Three – Stowe, Vermont: We
travel south into the village of Stowe, nestled
amongst the Green Mountains of Vermont. The
Trapp Family Lodge is situated on 2,500 acres
featuring Austrian-inspired architecture and
European-style accommodations. It has grown
into a world-renowned resort, now overseen by
Johannes, the youngest of the singing von Trapp
children, and his family. Those interested in the
history behind The Sound of Music will enjoy a von
Trapp history tour during our stay, which involves
a tour of the facility, the family’s private cemetery
and a documentary film of Maria von Trapp’s
memories during a visit to Salzburg. You may wish
to visit the Trapp family’s own brewery, a vision
of Johannes von Trapp, to produce an American
version of the tasty lager of his ancestral home in
Austria. Optional tours will also be offered to area
sights, including the Cold Hollow Cider Mill, and a
visit to the charming downtown area. Dinners and
breakfasts are included during our stay.
Day Four – Home: All too soon we pack our
bags for a scenic trip back home. We arrive early
evening, with many fond memories of the winter
splendour of Vermont and the Trapp Family Lodge.

This tour provides an in-depth look into the graceful south, in the days of the wealthy cotton
plantations, and before the strife of Civil War. Take a trip back in time to some remarkably
maintained antebellum plantations and homes, and get a taste of the graceful, opulent lifestyle of an era gone by. Special features include the Natchez Spring Pilgrimage, with periodstyle entertainment, tours and meals at historic mansions, the best of New Orleans, Bellingrath
Gardens in Mobile, the antebellum homes of Macon and Madison, Georgia and so much more.

dinner at the Old Country Store Restaurant.
Day Three – To Natchez: Today we travel the
historic Natchez Trace Parkway to Natchez,
Mississippi, during the annual spring Pilgrimage.
Antebellum mansions open their doors to the
public with costumed guides, many of whom are
descendants to the original owners. Natchez is
perched high atop the banks of the Mississippi
River; the azaleas are at their peak, and Natchez
looks like something from a storybook. We spend
two nights at a lovely downtown hotel.
Day Four – Natchez: An outstanding day of
sightseeing today includes Rosalie Mansion, with
exquisite original furniture from the early 1800s.
Longwood, the largest octagonal house in America, features a huge six storey rotunda. Stanton
Hall, a magnificent Greek Revival mansion, was
built in 1857 and many original furnishings
remain. We enjoy an elegant dinner at one of the
local mansions; then we attend the Historic Natchez Tableau, a colourful musical performance by
over 200 local performers, depicting the history
and music of the romanticized eras of old.
browsing at the Riverwalk complex, then board the
Steamboat Natchez, the last authentic steamboat
on the Mississippi River, for a narrated sightseeing
cruise. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the French
Quarter if you wish – the coach will make multiple
shuttles to Jackson Park – or enjoy the casino or
other areas of the city on your own. Dinner this evening will be memorable, as we enjoy a Cajun dinner
followed by live Cajun music and dancing.
Day Seven – New Orleans: This morning we
visit the awe-inspiring National World War II
Museum. There is an engaging film, incredible
exhibits, and an upscale cafe. If you prefer, you
may visit the New Orleans Aquarium. Enjoy the
evening in the French Quarter, or in any other
area in New Orleans you care to visit.
Day Eight – To Mobile: Driving along the Gulf
Coast, we arrive in Biloxi, Mississippi for lunch
at a newly renovated casino. (You may prefer to
spend time at the beach, which we can easily
arrange.) Then, it’s off to Mobile for a visit to Bellingrath Gardens, with 65 acres of blooms year
round. We tour Bellingrath Home, with original
furnishings and an extensive collection of art. We
spend the night in Mobile.

into Macon, an area of antebellum homes most
beautifully seen at dark, on a “columns and
moonlight” tour. These homes, tastefully lighted
in the evening, are a magical sight.
Day Five – To New Orleans via Rosedown and
Houmas House: This morning we visit Rosedown Plantation, featuring exquisite gardens,
and a tour of the mansion. Then, it’s on to
Houmas House. We enter through lush gardens,
and find ourselves taken back in time in one of
the best preserved mansions we have ever seen.
You won’t find any roped off areas; it’s a living,
breathing example of life as it once existed. We
enjoy a luncheon here before continuing on our
way to New Orleans, our home for three nights.
Our hotel is perfectly located just outside the
French Quarter, and includes daily hot breakfast
and afternoon cocktails and snacks.

preserved in the Madison area and Athens,

Vanderbilt’s 250-room chateau built in 1895. This
architectural and historic wonder is surrounded
by acres of beautiful gardens and grounds.

Travel with out-of-town family & friends!
Our extensive and FREE pickup service spanning Southern Ontario makes it easy to travel with friends
or family that live out-of-town. More and more of our customers are combining our worry-free getaways with family reunions, bringing along their parents, siblings, children, grandchildren, aunts, uncles
or friends. Lorraine and Walter Dick travelled with their family on our Cape Cod & Nantucket tour and
here’s what they had to say about it:
“In September, I had the privilege of accompanying my wife and six of her sisters on a family reunion trip to Cape
Cod with Great Canadian. I had never been on this kind of vacation before, and if I had any doubt it would have
been whether I would find the stops interesting. As it turned out, I really enjoyed it! The coach was very comfortable;
our tour director struck just the right balance between keeping us busy and giving us space; our driver was a complete professional; and we had experts join us to explain the particular features of our visits to Newport, Cape Cod,
Boston, etc. The trip was good value compared to driving there in a car and looking for the highlights ourselves.
Having someone else handle the arrangements kept the stress level low. We enjoyed great meals, entertainment,
excursions (whales!) and made some new friends…and the sisters are still on speaking terms! I would like to try the
southwestern United States next.”
Visit our website at www.greatcanadianholidays.com for a full list of our 140+ FREE pickup locations across Southern Ontario. It’s truly
the most hassle-free way to travel with family and friends!

noticeable improvements as we go forward together as Great Canadian Casino Express. There
will be more frequent casino trips with more
direct routings, and we will offer more overnight
casino getaways to various destinations.
You can continue to use the same phone number
and website, and of course the Great Canadian
motorcoaches you travel on will be the same.
We hope you continue to enjoy your casino outings with Great Canadian Casino Express – in this

FREE ACCOMMODATION FOR OUT-OF-TOWN TRAVELLERS:
For tours 7 days or longer in duration, we are pleased to offer complimentary overnight accommodation prior to the first
day of the tour in Kitchener. This is specifically for our travellers from 150 or more kilometres from Kitchener-Waterloo,
who wish to drive their car to the hotel and begin the tour
refreshed and relaxed. Details are available from your travel
agent or from our reservations personnel.
JOINING FRIENDS ON TOUR: If you are travelling with a
friend from a distant city it may not always be possible to
travel on the same coach if there are multiple coaches on
that departure. You may have to meet up at the hotel on the
first night and continue together from there.
GRATUITIES: When meals are included in the tour price,
gratuities are also included. When buying meals on tour, keep
in mind that gratuities are very important to restaurant staff.
Good restaurant stops can be hard to keep if tour groups do
not show appreciation for the service and effort put forth by
the staff. As for the driver and tour director, it is customary
to show your appreciation based on the level of service
received. In this way, you can decide what their performance
was worth and you will also know for sure they actually
receive their gratuities.
COACHES: The motor coaches used on our tours are of the
latest design with air suspension ride, climate control, reclining seats, washroom facilities, stereo music and much more.
For nearly all of our tours we use our own coaches, however,
during busy times or when our coaches are off the road for
important regular mechanical service, we charter quality
coaches from carefully selected companies.
CURRENCY: All prices shown are per person in Canadian
funds, and include HST where applicable. Although it is not
anticipated, prices are subject to change if there is a significant change in the status of the Canadian dollar, fluctuations
in airfare, or fuel increases.
SPECIAL ACCOMMODATION REQUESTS: Accommodation
is included on all tours. Room assignments are always done
by the hotel in an impartial fashion. Therefore, if you have
special needs, such as a room adjacent to a friend, please let
us know at time of booking and we will inform the hotels. It
cannot always be done, but the hotels will try to accommodate us to the best of their ability. All hotel rooms will be
requested as ‘non-smoking’ unless otherwise requested at
time of booking.

used by us to organize your travel plans with our tour suppliers. Some examples of how we share this information would
be providing your age to the travel insurance company, your
phone number to the cruise and air lines, and your address
for casinos to produce your player’s card. We do not sell, nor
do we give away your postal or email address to anyone for
any other purpose. By travelling on one of our tours, or upon
requesting information from us in the mail, you are authorizing us to send periodic information to you on upcoming tours
or promotions by post or email. If you prefer not to receive
