Decatur: One of
Georgia’s Best Cities
The City of Decatur was incorporated on December 10, 1823, just one year after the incorporation of DeKalb County, and was designated as the county seat. The city is named for Commodore Stephen Decatur, who won fame as a naval hero in his battles against the Barbary pirates at
Tripoli.
The City of Decatur is four square miles in size and has a population of 17,800, though its daytime population swells to 22,000. Decatur has more than 100 restaurants and shops and was named Best Mall Alternative, Intown by
Atlanta Magazine in its 19th annual “Best of
Atlanta” competition. Decatur was also named one of the state’s 10 “Cities of Excellence” by the Georgia Municipal Association and Georgia
Trend . The award honors the best managed, most livable cities in Georgia.

The DBA logo
The “shingle” represents what we do as business people in Decatur, regardless of occupation. A shingle connotes a small-town way of conducting business, trading with friends, neighbors and passersby.
The acronym “DBA” also stands for “doing business as.”
The association’s initials are set in the same logotype used in the City of Decatur logo, familiar to all within the community.

The DBA works closely with the Decatur Downtown Development Authority and the

putting on community events throughout the year. The success of these events is based on our members becoming involved. Funds raised from the events go directly back into our community to help our businesses become more successful.
If you would like to become involved with the business community, volunteering for an event is a great place to start. The strength of our community is based on the viability of our institutions, both governmental and educational, our citizens and our businesses. DBA is a membership organization representing businesses, professionals, fi nancial institutions, arts groups, associated agencies, organizations and private individuals who share an interest in promoting the city of Decatur. We work with the Decatur Downtown Development Authority as advocates for the business interests of the city and promote Decatur as a unique, thriving, small-town experience in metro Atlanta.
Membership
The Decatur Business Association is made up of more than 450 businesses and organizations who are all interested in the development of the city of Decatur. We work closely with the city and the Decatur Downtown Development Authority as advocates for the Decatur business community.
Monthly Meetings
The DBA meets the fourth Tuesday evening of each month at different locations within Decatur (with the exception of November and December). Networking begins at 5:15 and the program begins at 6 p.m. Check www.DecaturDBA.com for details.

JOIN
With your membership, you are invited to attend our monthly meetings at various locations around Decatur where you can network, eat and hear updated news about what is going on in your local community. As an added benefi t, members can send news and events through a weekly DBA e-newsletter, which is emailed to more than 875 business owners and residents in the Decatur area. Your business will be automatically listed in our online directory, and each January current members are included in the printed directory. Come and be part of DBA today and reap the benefi ts of membership!
SPONSOR
Sponsoring a meeting or event or purchasing a display ad in the DBA directory is a great way to not only support the community, but gain some great exposure for your business. Each monthly meeting is sponsored by a member through monetary contribution or an in-kind donation of food and/or beverages.
The DBA also hosts and sponsors a variety of events that draw huge crowds of consumers in and around Decatur. Sponsors help keep these events free to the community and provide an excellent venue for exposure. Meeting and event sponsors receive exposure through print and email communication, and are acknowledged from the stages and podiums. Education Foundation, established the
Book Club Fund. We want to ensure that all of Decatur’s kindergarteners, fi rst and second graders, can purchase books for their home libraries.
Please contribute $10, $20, $50, $100
— or more — to the Decatur Education Foundation Book Club Fund. Your tax-deductible contribution will help nourish the minds and enrich the lives of children in our community. Consider it an investment not only in this generation, but the next as well.

The Decatur Business Association meets on the fourth Tuesday of every month.
Meetings are free to members and their guests. Business card exchange/networking begins at 5:15 p.m. Program starts at 6 p.m. Program topics vary, and meetings are held at different businesses throughout Decatur.
