If contacted, course directors will immediately refer students to the Phase 1 Chair. A signed letter explaining the reason for the request should be submitted by the student to the Chair prior to the exam date. The Chair will generally excuse the students from the scheduled exam for any of the following reasons: *Participation in a major religious observance that conflicts with an exam date (with the Chair to be guided by the Office of Student Affairs in deciding which religious observances qualify) *Attendance at a funeral service for a member of the student's immediate family (1st or 2nd degree relations) *Incapacitating illness or injury (with an explanatory note from a physician) *Hospitalization (automatic)
