The report contains information on the post-graduation activities of the Class of 2011 and hiring activity for the College of Engineering Internship and Cooperative Education Program (co-op). This year showed improvement in hiring as Michigan Engineers were highly sought by numerous employers. The number of job postings for undergraduate students in our recruiting system, ENGenius.Jobs, increased by over 216% in comparison to the 20092010 academic year. The number of interviews conducted on campus increased by almost 27% and cooperative education assignments increased by 25%. The ECRC also provided a range of services to graduate and undergraduate students of the College. As always, our goal is to assist students in gaining valuable professional experiences that will help them make a successful transition from school to career. We focused on resume writing, interviewing skills, mock interviews and job search strategies. You are welcome to take advantage of the many services that we offer and to get involved with College of Engineering students. We look forward to another exciting year. Sincerely, Kerri Boivin Director, Engineering Career Resource Center College of Engineering 1 About the University of Michigan Continuing to define the great public university, the University of Michigan is home to 19 colleges and schools, which are among the top in their fields. The ECRC coordinates career advising services, career resource materials, workshops, employer presentations, campus interviews and online job postings. In addition to assisting students, the ECRC staff works with recruiting organizations to facilitate full-time, internship and cooperative education assignments. Thousands of campus interviews are managed through the ECRC annually. During the 2010-2011 recruiting season, the ECRC used its online recruiting system, ENGenius.Jobs, to manage the thousands of job postings and campus interviews conducted throughout the year. In 2010-2011, the Center experienced some notable trends. Employer participation in the Winter Engineering Career Fair increased, as well as an increase in activity from small businesses. In addition, we observed an increase in students participating in Cooperative Education assignments. Many employers partnered with the ECRC to offer career-related workshops and resume critiquing services for students throughout the year. The most frequent workshops offered included resume writing, interview preparation, developing networking skills and negotiating job offers. 5 The Cooperative Education Program The Cooperative Education Program at U-M Engineering is typically an alternating co-op model. Students alternate between a six to eight month work assignment and campus coursework. An alternating co-op requires a minimum of 30 work hours per week. While the majority of the students in the program were juniors and seniors, all undergraduate class levels were represented. Student interns not only benefit from the added experience and hands-on learning, they also benefit from the exposure to various work environments. Employers benefit by providing training opportunities, adding great new talent to their work teams and by identifying qualified candidates prior to graduation.
