Changes to the ACT
On May 8, ACT issued a press release confirming what had earlier been reported by several media
channels: starting in 2015, the ACT will be offered BOTH as a paper-and-pencil exam as well as a
computer-based test (CBT).
ACT Announces Plans for Computer-Based Administration
May 8 2013
IOWA CITY, IOWA—ACT today announced plans to offer online, computer-based administration of the
ACT college readiness assessment beginning in 2015. The digital version of the exam will be offered only
in schools that administer the ACT on a school day as part of their state, district or school assessment
programs.
Students will be able to take the electronic version of the ACT on devices such as desktop computers,
laptops and tablets. The traditional paper-and-pencil version of the ACT exam will continue to be
available to schools that do not have the capability to administer the digital version.
The content of the test will not change—the ACT will remain a curriculum-based achievement exam. The
exam will still be scored on the 1 to 36 scoring scale that has been used since the ACT was launched in
1959.
ACT will also offer schools a separate constructed-response battery of questions as an option to
supplement the traditional multiple-choice sections of the standard ACT. Constructed-response questions
require students to enter their own answer, rather than selecting the best answer from several given
choices. The optional constructed-response questions will allow schools to better align their reporting with
the Common Core State Standards.

Drexel now offers an Early Action option
As you prepare to help your students through another college search cycle, we wanted you to know that
Drexel University now offers both Early Action and Regular Decision application options. Drexel no longer
offers the Early Decision option.
Early Action is intended for students with a strong interest in Drexel who want a faster admission
decision. This option is non-binding. To apply, students should submit a complete application, including
all application materials, and indicate their intention to be considered for Early Action.
Early Action Deadline #1: November 1
Decisions Released: Mid-December
Early Action Deadline #2: December 1
Decisions Released: Mid-January
Regular Decision Deadline: January 15
Decisions Released by April 1
The application will be available at www.drexel.edu/ugapp beginning in August. Drexel also accepts the
Common Application, which is available at www.commonapp.org/.
If you have any questions, please contact us at enroll@drexel.edu or 1-800-2-DREXEL.
We wish you and your students all the best during this year's college application process!

University of Michigan and the Common Application
Dear High School Counselors: Many of you work with students who will receive this email from
us today. We appreciate everyone's patience as we wait for the Common Application to complete
the University of Michigan specific questions.
The 2013-2014 Common Application is now live.
But take your time. The University of Michigan specific questions are still under technical development,
so that portion can't be filled out quite yet. (Your application needs these questions to be completed and
submitted for us to start evaluating).
In the interim, you can still get a great start on the main application page, and begin drafting your U-M
essays and invite your recommenders.
We'll send out another email when our questions are ready. Don't worry - our Early Action deadline for
first-year students (November 1), and Regular Decision deadline for all applicants (February 1), are still
months away, so you have plenty of time!

Indiana University's online application is now available!
Greetings from Bloomington!
I wanted to share with you the email that we sent out yesterday (below) to all of our prospective high
school seniors across the nation. We’re excited to already have received hundreds of applications!
I also wanted to remind you to be sure to have your students apply for our Fall 2014 semester – not one
of our summer sessions. Each year many of my applicants from the state of Florida apply to begin at IU
in the summer, but these applicants are not considered for merit based scholarships or direct admission
into our academic programs.
Indiana University - Preview Event in South Florida!
The Indiana University Office of Admissions will be hosting a Preview event in South Florida for
high school juniors and seniors (see the information below regarding date, time, and location).
This event is designed to allow students and their families to obtain answers to questions they
may have related to applying to and enrolling at IU. Students will also have the opportunity to
connect with an admissions staff member who will continue to be available to assist them as
well as other students who may be their future IU classmates.
Thank you for your support of Indiana University! We look forward to continuing to work with you
and your students during the next school year and beyond. If you have any questions, please
contact me at tknaus@indiana.edu or 812.855.0722.
