AMERICAN INTERCONTINENTAL UNIVERSITY ONLINE West Suburban Region • • Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies Bachelor of Science in Organizational Psychology American InterContinental University Online (AIU Online) has notified the Illinois Board of Higher Education of its intent to offer courses leading to two new undergraduate degree programs: the Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies and the Bachelor of Science in Organizational Psychology. The IBHE has previously approved AIU Online’s authority to operate and grant degrees in the West Suburban region. The Board’s approval of these programs will allow the University to continue to offer undergraduate education that prepares graduates of these programs for career change and career advancement opportunities in their respective disciplines. Development and review of these proposed undergraduate degree programs have included a cross-section of University constituencies including faculty, academic leadership, University administration, and Governing Board membership, consultants and advisory boards. AIU Online anticipates a Winter 2005 offering for these two new programs with an estimated enrollment of 25 students per degree program for the initial cohort, and to maintain a student base of 50-100 students in each program over the next two years. The Associate of Science in Paralegal Studies prepares students to perform routine legal tasks and to assist with substantive, non-clerical legal work under the supervision of an attorney in a variety of settings including law firms, courts, corporations, banks, government agencies and other legal environments. The broad base of general education, research, and writing courses fosters critical thinking and communication skills and, combined with the legal specialty course work, cultivate the development of ethical and professional competence. Computer skills are essential for the employability of the students and are stressed throughout the program. The Bachelor of Science in Organizational Psychology prepares students for careers that involve finding solutions to individual and organizational problems in the workplace. Students will develop an understanding of human behavior and organizational dynamic s that affect business success and gain the skills to function effectively in group and organizational settings.
