Founders
Mr. Fred C. and Sigrid B. Ott
Founders and Directors Emeritus
Mr. and Mrs. Ott, named “Honorary Citizens” by
the Leysin Town Council in June 2007, realized
their vision of an international school to develop
“global citizen leaders” in 1960. Through the
founding of the International Ranger Camps in
1949, LAS in 1960, and the American College
in 1963, they were pioneers in the transition
of the community of Leysin into a world-class
center for international education. Fred passed
away in November 2007. Sigrid, still active in
her early nineties, enjoys retirement and a view
of the dynamic evolution of LAS, from the Chalet
Dakota on the Alpine hill below campus.
