IX. Professional Service
Clinical Activities
As the chief of physics team, I am responsible to direct the physics and dosimetry team and
assume full responsibility of the physics data and procedures applied to the patients, irrespective
of whether these activities are carried out by the physicists, dosimetrists, or other personnel. My
responsibility has also been to ensure that an adequate and competent physics and dosimetry
team is in place and that the roles of different personnel on the team are appropriately defined.
Calibration of radiation generators or sources is the exclusive most critical responsibility that I
undertake. This includes calibration/commissioning before any machine is released for patient
treatment, periodic calibration of all machines with appropriate quality assurance practices and
maintaining all those documents according to Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ)
regulations. I have been also responsible to teach dosimetrists and physicists the Intensity
Modulated Radiation Therapy (IMRT) treatment planning using ECLIPSE Treatment Planning
System, High Dose Rate (HDR) and Low Dose Rate (LDR) treatment planning with Nucletron
PLATO Systems. The following procedures are done where I am responsible either as a primary
physicist in charge or as a supervisory physicist:
Daily, monthly and annual quality assurance on all three linear accelerators, HDR delivery unit,
Stereotactic Gamma Knife Radio Surgery unit, and annual quality assurance of the treatment
planning systems, IMRT quality assurance measurements with film using RIT software and
ionization chambers, electron cutout measurements, post-planning and weekly chart review with
chart close up, High Dose Rate (HDR) and Low Dose Rate (LDR) brachytherapy treatment
planning, quality assurance, and other supports during patient treatment, prostate seed implant
procedure management, special procedures that include Total Body Irradiation (TBI), 4DCT
planning, respiratory gated treatment and Image Guided Radiotherapy (IGRT), Commissioning,
overall treatment delivery and quality assurance of Stereotactic Radio Surgery (SRS) with
Gamma Knife and Trilogy/Brain lab, TrueBeam STX systems. Currently I am also in charge of
commissioning of the Proton Therapy Machine that is supposed to be installed in the cancer
center next year.
