Our new project, History Here, helps you find out! Inspired by the Art The Box Project in downtown Eugene, we used large traffic signal boxes to locate several posters around town. These posters were created in collaboration with the Lane County Historical Society and Museum using photos from their collections. All of the posters feature historical images of events, people, or activities that took place at or near that location with a short caption that tells the story of the image. This project is funded in part by a grant by Lane Arts Council with support from the City of Eugene Cultural Services Division. It has also been supported by the City of Eugene's Art in Public Places program. We have placed 13 posters so far, with at least 2 more planned for 2015. The posters should last about 5 years. Click here for a map of all of the poster locations. This poster at the corner of River Road and Northwest Expressway is one of 13 History Here posters located around the Eugene area. New Events: Victorian Family Holidays A family friendly event! On December 6, 2014 we held our first ever Victorian Family Holidays event. This family friendly event featured story telling, Christmas Cracker making, gingerbread cookie decorating, a scavenger hunt, and writing letters to Santa. We are extremely grateful to MECCA for their donation of supplies and to Pacific Continental Bank for the generous grant that made this event possible! We also want to thank The Dancing Weasel Toy Store, Eugene Toy and Hobby, and VenderNoFive for their donations to our scavenger hunt raffle. Finally, thank you to Cousin Jack's Pasties and BGE Photography for helping us make this event special. Click here to see pictures of this event! Windows Project In June, we began work on our Window Restoration Project. Phase One is well underway, with the 4 single pane windows in the Turret room as well as the two large windows in the attic having been replaced by Culver Glass Company. The largest part of the project, the 50+ doublehung wood windows around the House, has started with the full restoration of one window in the Parlor. This window, our model window, has given us a better understanding of just what it will take to fully restore each of these 126 year old openings. In a stroke of luck, we found 6 of the original screens in the basement that are in good enough shape to help us re-create them. While working on the model window, the contractor also restored an original screen and created a new one from scratch to be used in another window after it is restored. Given our short dry season and the large project, we have split the project into several phases to be done over time. The first phase is to restore all of Board Member Lee Kersh discusses the the windows on all three floors of the Turret by replacement of the windows in the Turret June 2015.
