Materials: flashcards with sports and home activities, card stock Start the Class 5 min On the board, spread out flashcards with sports and home activities. Divide the class into several teams. Have one student from each team stand up. Explain that you are going to say a sentence about an activity, and the first person in each team should run to the board and touch the corresponding flashcard. If the student touches the correct picture, he or she wins a point for the team. Repeat with different sports and activities. Play several times until all students have participated. 1 Think about activities you like. Write a new verse for the song. 10 min Tell students to look at Page 38 and have volunteers read the directions and the sentences in the example text. Explain that they are going to work individually to write a new verse for the song about an activity they are not doing and an activity that they are doing. Make sure there are a variety of activities. Provide help as necessary. 5 min Try This! 2 Share your verse. 5 min Put students into pairs. Tell students that they are going to work with a partner and take turns telling each other their new song verses. Tell them that they will sing their song with all the verses they wrote between them. Explain that they have to decide on appropriate actions to mime each of the activities. Tell them to practice their song in their team. Circulate among the teams and provide help as needed. Encourage students to negotiate to create a plan the whole team is comfortable with. Finish the Class 15 min Have teams share their songs with the class. Remind them to mime the activities while they sing. After all the teams have sung their verses, have the class vote on the top three songs. Write out five different sentences on cards, then cut the cards in half so that each card has half a sentence. Repeat until you have one card per student. Give them out to students at random. Have each student stand up and look for the student that has the other half of his or her sentence.
