Identity Construction among American Iranians: First vs. 1.5 Generation
This paper examines processes of identity construction and preservation among 1.5 generation
and first generation Iranian immigrants in the United States. Drawing on 34 in-depth
interviews with respective members of both examined generations from New York and Los
Angeles in 2011 it aims to identify the most significant elements in the process of their
identity construction and to consider possibility of collective identity formation in ethnically
and religiously diverse society of American Iranians. Attention was also given to often-hostile
relations between the United States and Iran and their reflection on lives of Iranians in the US;
the paper seeks to answer whether negative connotations of word “Iran” affect the selfidentification of American Iranians.

Essay La Raza Cósmica by Jose Vasconcelose as a Illustrate the Context of Formation of
Mexican Nationalistic Discours
The aim of this article is to illustrate the context of formation of Mexican nationalistic
discourse through the analysis of essay La Raza Cósmica. This essay, composed by an
influential Mexican philosopher, Jósé Vascoselos, who helped to shape the politics and
culture of post-revolution Mexico (during the 20ies and 30ies of the 20th century), may sound
ridiculous and romanticizing to the contemporary reader. However, during its time, this essay,
and the ideas it presented, had, a very real impact on political and cultural processes in postrevolution Mexico. The article describes the essay’s influence on the policy of indigenismo,
the state policy dealing with the integration and assimilation of indigenous population into the
major mestic society, its influence on post-revolution muralism, state education and other
important pillars of nation building and state formation.

Artaud’s Surrealistic Exotism
The present article is interested in French surrealistic dramatist Antonin Artaud whose part of
the works is dedicated to the concept of culture in Tarahumara country. The article is divided
into three parts. The first one is about Artaud’s surrealist products in the other context. It is
about his specific perception as a surrealist and about his concept of surrealism. In the second
part the author delimits the culture in the Artaud’s perspective on race, typical in that time.
Artaud is in this case conceive of as a man of literature. The author is considering possible
relations between surrealism and classical literary naturalism; these relations are presented in
the third part. The author is striving to get a connection between author as ethnologist and the
author as a dramatist on the one hand and between his Tarrahumara concept of culture, seen
basically as a race. Eventually the author mentions a few anthropologists the specialized in
Tarrahumara matters.

Anthropology of Everyday Ways: Overview of Selected Approaches Perception of Space
More and more people all over the world are nowadays living in cities and metropolitan areas.
Formation and shape of everyday life is being substantially organized according to distribution
of activities and form of trips, through which activities are connected. The everyday city transit
became one of the basic practices contributing to the image of social relations and space
experience. Different transport practices – driving a car, using public transport, riding a bike or
walking are facilitating particular social and space relations and preventing from the other. This
article aim to investigate different ethnological and anthropological scholar approaches to place
and space experiences. This approaches are thereafter used for formulation of own focused
analytical model for investigation of modern everyday lives with relation to predominant
everyday transport practices.

Archival Materials
The paper is devoted to the problems of midwifery in the second half of the 19th and the
beginning of the 20th centuries with the focus on the Pelhřimov region. Some aspects
connected with midwifery practice are observed on the basis of archival materials, the
literature of the period as well as contemporary studies. The paper concentrates especially on
the problems of midwives’ education, their qualification and competence and accustomed
insufficient salaries. It also draws attention to the area of collegial relationships and some
orders and regulations which, in some detail, adjusted the midwifery profession.

Visual Representation of Gender in Public Space of Romanian Countryside
The article arose from field research in the area of Romanian countryside, namely how in the
area of Bucovina, where a numerous Polish Catholic minority lives, so in the area of
Marmuresh, where mainly orthodox Romanian live. It deals with gender differences
construction and subsequent visual manifestation, whereby not only gender stereotypes
confirm, but these manifestations also confirm the whole social order. This process is
proceeding how in the profane, so in the sacred space and time. The first part of the article is
devoted to profane time and here it deals with ethnographic description of everyday gender
role demonstration by means of clothing, or by means of working and family roles. It also
deals with local male and female spaces division and about free-time activities in terms of
these two spaces. The second part of this article concern about the sacred time and about male
and female roles in local sacred rituals and ceremonies.

Polish National Minority’s Search for Identity in the Czech Republic at the beginning
the 90’s of the 20th Century
This contribution focuses on some problems occurring in connection with the Polish national
minority in northern Moravia. Through the prism of the representative magazine Zwrot and
other periodicals, the author tries to capture how spokespersons for the Polish minority
formulated these problems at the beginning of the nineties, and which cures were sought. The
author deals with problems concerning the Polish national minority’s assimilation in the
Czech Republic, and with questions of minority training, activating Polish associations and
cultural life, and the growth of patriotism through historical awareness of the Polish minority
under democratic conditions.

Science, Anthropology, and Prediction
Science is a systematic study of facts (phenomena) pertaining to a specific problem, which
analyzed by empirical method in order to arrive at a generalization (scientific law).
Consequently a scientific discipline has to be solidly based upon facts and use of empirical
method. The generalization serves for application in the future (for prediction). That the social
sciences, except for classical comparative anthropology, cannot predict, is not the fault of
specific nature of social data. Social data, precisely empirically determined, are not “sui
generis”, but they are as objective as data of the natural sciences. That the social sciences
cannot predict is the result of poor, non-empirical research, lacking the rigor and exactitude
required from natural sciences. And certainly “pure logic is the safest way to go wrong with
confidence” (A. Einstein).

Analysis of the Seditious Manifestations of Children and Youth Dated from Before
November 89
The paper deals with the topic of wall-writings, leaflets and actions in the public space dated
before the November 89 when similar forms of disapproval expressions were considered as
crimes. The research is based on an analysis of the materials form the Archive of the former
State Security Services which permits to see the event from the point of view of those
intended to repress similar expressions. Within the analysis a specific tension appears between
the event (as indicated in fragments: by means of documentation, detailed description, or the
evidence of the suspected) and a discourse which shapes it and which is obvious and easy to
deconstruct. The special attention is paid to the various manifestations of children and youth
which were not primarily intended to offend the Regime. But the Regime shows a great scale
of its own paranoia by considering them so. The criminalistic registers provide with the very
tangible examples of the particular, hybrid synthesis of the Regime and the everyday.

Reminiscences and Narration about Occupation, Resistance and Liberation of Neveklov
and its Neighbourhood
This essay is the benefit to studying of the questions of the oral history of forcibly ejected
inhabitants of Neveklov and its neighborhoods during the World War II. About this region,
there exists authentic testimony and this territory is fixed in the collective memory. The oral
history is a highly valued literary source. Its value is in the authenticity, which is characterized
by selectivity and represents another point of view. The essay brings the unique opportunity to
get acquainted with witnesses of the wartime. At present this testimony is unknown or is
being forgotten in the official documents. The essay follows the research of Jaromír Jech from
the middle of the last century. If we compare the results of both researches, we get the view of
the importance of forcible displacement of Czech inhabitants.

Structural Analysis of Trickster Tales and Myths of Native Americans of North
America: The Case of the Tribes of Plains and Prairies
The aim of the text is to analyse selected trickster tales of Native Americans of North America
with focus on the tales of the tribes of Plains and Prairies. The method took inspiration from
was C. Lévi-Strausse‘s structural analysis. We use C. Lévi-Strausse‘s terms such as mytheme,
group of myths or formal structure of a myth to analyse and find a hidden meaning in a
selected group of trickster tales. We call the ‚hidden meaning‘ the semantic meaning of a
mytheme. We focused on the following mythemes: direction down and up, change and getting
new physical abilities. The mythemes listed above were analysed in terms of their formal
structure. Then we suggested the semantic meaning of the mythemes.

Jorge Luis Borges and Ethnology: James George Frazer
Borges’ interest in ethnology is particularly apparent in his repeated references to the work of
James G. Frazer. Specially, J. L. Borges review essay The Fear of the Dead in Primitive
Religion (which precedes in Czech translation this article) anticipated later interpretations and
criticism of J. G. Frazer and his methodological inconsistency. I is to stress that J. L. Borges
work in general is marked by overt sensitivity to cultural differences. The most ethnological of
J. L. Borges essays and short stories in this sense is “Brodies Report“, a vivid sketch of
”primitive“ society. The ”Report“ is the major subject of this article. The article asks what
joins J. L. Borges with J. G. Frazer. And the author concludes that, although of quite different
intellectual backgrounds and traditions, our authors should be perhaps situated within the
lineage of the miscellaneous, traces by such personalities as Pliny, R. Burton, G. Flaubert and
C. G. Jung.
