This book is a fiction. It is an adventure and romantic story. Pip is the main character of this
story. He had no father or mother. He lived on the marshes with his elder sister. His sister
was nasty and bad-tempered. She did not like Pip. Joe, who is a blacksmith, is Pip’s sister’s
husband. He was very kind to Pip and he looked after him too.
One day, Pip saw a prisoner, Abel Magwich. The prisoner was escaping, and he asked Pip
to give him some food. Then, Pip helped him. Finally, the soldiers found some prisoners who
were escaping. They took the prisoners back to the prison ship.
One day, Pip went to Miss Havisham’s house. Miss Havisham was an old lady, Pip saw a girl
who called Estella there. He loved Estella but Estella did not love a blacksmith. Miss
Havisham’s house didn’t allow anyone to marry Estella. She gave Pip some money. She did
not want to see him again.
The next day, Pip received the money but he did not know who gave him the money. He
loved Estella, so he spent the money to go to London. He wanted to be a gentleman there.
He hoped he could marry Estella one day.
I have learned a lot of things from this book. Pip was a brave and ideal man. He had his
ambition. He wanted to be a gentleman and married Estella. So, he went to London by
himself. I think he was brave because he did not know anyone in London before going to
London. No one helped him when he was getting into troubles. No one talked to him when
he was sad. No one shared food with him when he was hungry. Luckily, he met his friend
who called Hebert in London. After that, Pip became a rich gentleman. He thought he could
marry Estella. However, I don’t like his manner for treating his friend. When he came back
from London, he went to Miss Havisham’s house to see Estella. He forgot to visit friends
Biddy and his sister’s husband Joe. He was very selfish. He made them sad. He didn’t know
friendship is very important.
Pip knew Estella didn’t want to marry him. He also knew that the one who gave him lots of
money to help him was a gentleman. His name’s Abel Magwitch. He was the prisoner that
Pip helped him on the marshes when he was young. This let me think that if I help
somebody, they will help me. So, helping others is very important. Since Abel Magwitch was
a prisoner, he had some enemies. His enemies wanted to kill him everyday. Pip wanted to
help him again. However, Abel Magwitch died when he fought with his enemies. The
policeman caught him. I felt a bit sad about him. If he did not have enemies, nobodies would
want to kill him. Therefore, we should not have enemies; we should make some real friends
instead.
Before he died, he was ill, Pip told him that he looked like his father. When I was reading this
page, I was almost burst into tears. Pip was poor again. Luckily, Joe, who was his sister’s
husband, took him back to his home. I thought Joe was a kind man, he looked after Pip
since was a boy.
Perhaps Pip loves Estella so much, he began to think about her again. However, Mr.
Havisham was dead. His house was ruined. He met Estella on the way home. Estella
husband was dead by an accident. They were very happy to see each other again. They
were together.
I thought the God gave a good chance to Pip. This story did not tell me whether Pip married
Estella or not. I thought this is not important. Splice is not important. Great expectations are
not important. Friendship is really important. I know how important friendship is, after
reading the whole story. I like this book because of the inside meaning of the story!
