Will of Edward North of Tean, 19th February, 1663
In The name of god Amen I Edward North of Over Teane in the parish off Checklye and in the
County of Stafford labourer being sick in body but off good and perfect remembrance praysed
bee god, doe make and hereby ordaine this my last will and Testament in manner amd Form
Following First I yeild and bequeath my body to the earth whereoff it was at first Framed,
and by soule to almighty god my [saviour] hoping through the merits off Jesus Christ that
both my soule and body shall at the last day be united together and remaine with god in glory
inseperably for ever Amen, And for such worldly goods as I shall enioy and possesse at my
decease I thus dispose off them first I give unto my sonn John North all the mantion house
wherein I live and the hempbut backside and garden thereunto belonging (in manner and
form following) that is to say the one halfe Immediately after my decease, and the other halfe
at the decease of my wife catherin, my son paying unto my three daughters the summe off
Fiffteene pounds to be devided equally amongst them as it happens to Fall due, that is to say
five pounds at three yeares end after my decease and other five pounds after three yeares
after that that is at six yeares end after my decease and other Five pound of lawfull money of
England at three yeares after that, that is, at nine yeares after my decease, and for want off
payment off the summe off Fiffteene pounds or any part theroff as is above limited, they, to wit
my daughters or their assignes to enter upon the land and to dettaine the same till full [ - ]
payments come due or payable leaving no issue lawfully begotten then the money to bee paid
to them living. Item I give unto my son John my title in a certaine peice of ground called
Ruddock pit, my sonn John paying and discharging all rents and covenants concerning the
same. Item I give unto Catherin my wife the one halfe of my house hempbut garden and
backside during her naturall life iff she keepe her selfe unmarryed, but in case shee marry,
then shee shall remove and my son John to enter upon the land, upon her marrying; and pay
unto my wife the summe of Twenty shillings a yeare at Midsummer yearely during her
naturall life. Item I give unto Catherin my wife all my goods Cattell, and Chattells moveable
and unmoveable quick and dead, to her and her assignes for ever, my wife bearing one halfe
off my Funerall expences, and my son John the other halfe And lastly I make and ordayne my
son John North my sole and lawfull executor of this my last will and Testament revoking and
hereby disannulling all other and former wills and Testaments whatsoever In witnesse
whereoff I have hereunto set to my hand and seale the nineteenth day off February in the
sixteenth yeare of the Raign of our most gracious soveraigne lord King Charles the Second
and in the yeare of our lord one Thousand Six hundred Sixty and three
