Qualities of an Epic Hero:
- The hero is fighting for his people.
- The hero possesses valor, military prowess,
loyalty, generosity, and honor.
- The hero is aware of his own mortality, but never
shirks from his duty. It is a hero’s duty to
preserve his life by valor.
- The hero lives in a “shame culture” or a
honor/shame society where a man’s “good
name” is his most prized possession. When
shame falls, it reflects not only on the hero, but
also on his family and his nation.
- The hero is tested through feats of arms.
- The hero is fighting for something that has been
taken.
- The hero only fights when circumstances require.
- The hero is battling forces that threaten his or her
world.
