Your job is to choose a topic that you are able to write a 5-6 page
Essay on. You need to research the essay thoroughly. Within your
essay you also need to cite your sources that you use.
There are two ways to do this.
1) If you write a direct quote from a source, a book or website,
you must write in brackets where that direct quote came from
and the page number if it is in a book.
Ex. “Scientists use classification to help them
understand the diversity of life on Earth” (Doyle et al., p.
21).
2) If you use information from a source, but PUT IT IN YOUR
OWN WORDS, you still need to cite your source. If you
have an entire paragraph that came from the same source,
you can write the citation at the end of the paragraph.
Ex. According to Doyle, we know that in order to
classify living things, scientists look at common
characteristics of the organisms. We also can see that things
like buildings and rocks, non-living things, do not have the
characteristics of living things (Doyle et al, p. 5).
Your Essay must include:
1. A Thesis
2. Essay formatting
3. Research
4. Works cited list at the end of the essay
5. Some direct quotes with proper referencing
6. Font size 12, double space your work on the computer.
Your paper is to be 5-6 pages long.
