The Alcohol Epidemiology Symposium is the annual research meeting of the Kettil
Bruun Society for Social and Epidemiological Research on Alcohol. The KBS is an
international organization of scientists engaged in research on the social aspects of
alcohol use and alcohol problems.
The aim of this 33rd Symposium is to have an
in-depth look at the advances in alcohol
research and raise further research issues and
opportunities, taking into account experiences
from around the world.
The scope of the symposium is broadly
defined to include research studies of
determinants of drinking, drinking practice,
attitudes and drinking problems in the general
as well as in the clinical population, and the
social and institutional responses to drinking
related
problems.
Research
and
action
research reports as well as theoretical and
conceptual papers are expected. Papers on
any topic broadly related to the Society’s
scope are welcomed; “epidemiology” is
broadly construed to include also such strands
as policy studies, historical and ethnographic
research, cultural studies, and experimental
social psychology.
The Symposium focuses on discussion on
submitted papers, prepared discussion session
and topical workshops. The emphasis will be
on
discussion,
papers
are
precirculated
electronically via the website, and then
introduced by the author with a 10-minutes
presentation prior to discussion initiated by a
discussant.
The 33rd KBS symposium is hosted by Institute of Sociology and Social Policy of the
Corvinus University of Budapest and the Rudolf Andorka Social Scientific Association.

Call for Abstracts and Papers
Interested persons are invited to submit, by 15 February 2007 an informative abstract of a
paper, maximum 1500 characters, to be considered for presentation at the Symposium. No
poster presentations are scheduled. Receipt of your abstract and its status will be
acknowledged by the Conference Office. The full paper must be no longer than 16 pages,
including text, bibliography, tables and figures and will be due by 1 May 2007.
Registration
The registration fee includes admission to the conference, open sessions, all materials
[conference kit, CD with abstracts and full papers], and coffee and refreshments. The
Conference dinner is included with the premium fee, and the various social programs are extra
charges.
A limited number of scholarships are offered consisting of some combination of Symposium
registration, travel and lodging at the Hotel Griff Junior thanks to the sponsoring of KBS.
Preference will go to those selected as symposium presenters, being young researchers,
coming from central-eastern European countries, those who are first time attendees of the
KBS annual meeting, and those from other countries with no support for research related
travel for the topics of the KBS meetings.
Only after registration, paper presentation at the conference is possible.
