The poems speaker is very sad and depressed because he keeps trying to get rid of the raven that is mocking death. 2. Lenore is the speaker’s wife who has sadly passed away. The speaker was in love with her because since she has passed away he has gone mad and does not know what to do since she is gone. 3. In the beginning of the poem the speaker describes his mood as being weak and weary. At the end of the poem the mood is depressing and mad. The mood has changed because the speaker wants the raven to leave because he is sick of all the mocking of death and the speaker is now imagining things. 4. The one word the raven states is, “Nevermore.” The raven is responding to each of the narrator’s questions he asks. 5. My impression of the raven is that he is very mocking. The raven continues to mock the speaker about the death of his wife. The speaker can no longer take it and forces the raven to leave. 6. No the poem would not have been as effective because parrots are known to repeat words said. With the raven it is not as expected and the raven presents a scarier image. I thought that this poem was ok because it did a good job describing what was going on in the speakers life and explains how depressing and sad it is to lose a loved one.
