Many of the events in the main characters lives are so sudden and disturbing that they are not sure if the events are real or not; therefore, it causes these characters to believe that they may be losing their minds (Muste). Summary Cards Front of Card Summary-- The Crying of Lot 49 The Crying of Lot 49 is a novel about a woman named Oedipa Maas . Misguided and confused, Oedipa falls into a never ending path of trying to find the answer to a question that no one knows. Oedipa pursues her quests though encounters with human wreckage and scientific puzzles; however, she never knows whether or not she is purposely being lead through a never ending maze (Muste).
