Letter to the editor
Readers of the ‘Daily Mail’; people who do not know what is happening on
Manor (Animal) Farm.
Dear Editor,
I am both very humbled and privileged to be the leader of Manor Farm. For many years now,
I have rebuilt and shaped the farm into one of England’s finest of farms! Manor Farm began
as a small, poor and inefficient farm in the hands of Mr Jones. Since my leadership, Manor
Farm has greatly improved in production and efficiency. All of my animals are working
harder and are happier! We have improved production and influenced surrounding farms! We
have engaged in trade that has been beneficial to all farms! Editor, I believe that Manor Farm
should be a farm worth noticing! A farm that should be used as an example for other farms!
Under my leadership and influence, Manor Farm has grown to become an incredible farm. Of
course as well as production and efficiency on the farm, I am all for the animals. My dear
followers and members of Manor Farm are loyal and hard working! We are working together
as a whole, as a TEAM for the betterment of the farm! We are moving as one, moving
forwards! Of course the animals know that my leadership is vastly different to that of the old
“master’s” (Mr Jones). They all have better lives and can now understand and actually see
what they are working for, what we are working towards!
My dear Editor, it is not only Manor Farm that tastes her own success and riches! English and
all of England’s people and animals can also feel this sense of achievement. We all can gain
from this! I, comrade Napoleon, have not done this all in vain and greed! Oh no! I have done
this for everyone. Of course there have been some slight hurdles along the way and traitors
that have tried to corrupt Manor Farm and hinder our success. They shall not be named but I
am proud to say that none of that will ever be repeated again!
Editor, readers of ‘The Daily Mail’, have we not all gained together from Manor Farm’s
success? My colleague Mr Whympler has told me of the happiness of the rest of England and
all the other farms that we traded with. This can very soon be spread to the whole of England!
Sincerely,
Comrade Napoleon! Xox
Written Explanation
For this SAC, we had to write a letter to the editor in a persuasive style from a chosen
character in the novel. I have chosen Napoleon. Napoleon is a character in the novel that is
very sly and alters the reality of the other animals on the farm for his own personal gain. In
this letter to the editor that I have written, Napoleon is speaking to the public and is NOT
expressing his own true personal thoughts. The idea and view that he conveys (or that I have
made him convey) are biased and misrepresentations of the truths on Animal Farm. Napoleon
is trying to persuade the audience (the wider community of human beings) to believe him and
that he is a good influence on the farm.
Feedback
All these points are excellent. What you show here is that, in fact, this letter is a total
fabrication, it is manipulating the truth; it is ALL for Napoleon’s benefit and gain.
Outstanding.
