The Female Influence…A Project on a Female Author or Poet
Directions: Choose one of the following women authors or poets and complete the project as listed below. The due date of this entire project is Friday, 16 January 2015. You will have some time in class to do some research/reading and some outside time. Do NOT waste time.
Requirements:
You will choose one of the following authors/poets (each person in class must have a different author/poet – choose wisely). From the author you select, you must read a book, three short stories, OR seven poems.
You will research information on this author/poet (must have at least one book or professional journal source), and you will need two other sources (try MEL, newspapers, magazines, internet, etc.) – so 3 sources total.
You will put together a visual (poster board, power point, diorama, etc.) for use during the presentation.
You will write out your presentation describing the author/poet (life, famous works, attitude, critiques, and influences). In this presentation you will also describe your feelings about this author / poet, as well as a literary analysis of the book, short stories, or poems. While there is no specific length requirement, you probably won’t be able to complete the requirements in less than
1-2 pages, so be sure to keep that in mind.
You will also read a portion of an essay, short story, novel, or poem by this writer (during the presentation). You will give us background (if needed) on this piece and then read it with inflection and feeling. Presentations should last 3-5 minutes.
This project is worth 100 points (60 points for written component, 30 points for visual, 10 for presentation to the class).
You will turn in to me on the due date:
1.
The written presentation. Included in this is background information on this author/poet as well as a literary analysis of the book, short stories, or poems. (Note: this does not just mean a general summary of the work. Remember that if you are choosing short stories or poems, you will need a literary analysis of EACH work. You need to make it obvious to me that you actually read it!)
2.
The visual. Any pictures, graphics used, you will need to cite this on the poster, powerpoint or on the diorama. (Example – all images are from Google)
