Resolutions for 2014 session, Deloraine, Tasmania
1. That the General Assembly, recognising the importance of international travel mechanisms

families of the victims of Flight MH370, decide to commit greater resources to the regulation
and assurance of airline safety, including anti-terror and transnational crime mechanisms,
and mechanical support.
2. That the General Assembly, concerned about the assurance of peace in the Middle East and
the plight of local citizens, call upon the State of Israel to respect the sovereignty of the State
of Palestine, remove all settlements from the West Bank, Gaza and the Golan Heights, and
recommit to a balanced peace process, recognising the rights of both States to exist.
3. That the General Assembly, recognising the importance of protecting and preserving sites of
great natural beauty and cultural importance for future generations, and reaffirming its
commitment to the Convention concerning the Protection of the World Cultural and Natural
Heritage, call upon all States, including Australia and Syria, to ensure protection of their
World Heritage sites, from all forms of armed conflict, economic development, and other
outside influences.
4. That the General Assembly, acknowledging the fundamental principle of the Charter of the
United Nations, of sovereign equality and respect for the territorial integrity and political
independence of any State, condemn Russia for its annexation of the Ukrainian territory of
Crimea, and its continued aggressive stance towards Ukraine, and reaffirm its collective
commitment to the suppression of acts of aggression and other breaches of the peace.
5. That the General Assembly, concerned by the numbers of Syrian refugees present in
Lebanon, and the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the Syrian civil war, commit to
accepting Syrian refugees for resettlement, funding refugee support programs in Lebanon,
and supporting an effective and peaceful Syrian solution.
6. That the General Assembly, acknowledging the terrible effects of the disappearance of
Malaysia Airlines Flight MH370, the recent mudslide in the USA, and the earthquake in Chile,
among other disasters, call upon the international community to commit funds to
developing more effective and reliable international protocols for crisis response and
management, and disaster relief.
7. That the General Assembly, acknowledging the negative effects of the illicit drug trade on
the spread of organised crime, and the damage caused to the security and stability of States,
encourage all States to follow the lead of Uruguay and Guatemala, and investigate the
security, economic and health advantages of legalising both the production and sale of drugs
such as cannabis and opium.
8. That the General Assembly, committing to the protection of the global climate, and
concerned that it may already be too late to fully reverse the effects of climate change, call
upon the international community to acknowledge the devastating effect that climate
change is having on the world’s weather patterns, and to act immediately to tax carbon
emissions, ensure sustainable development, and prevent future global temperature rises.
9. That the General Assembly, acknowledging the numerous claims upon the South China Sea,
and the rich natural resources available in many of the world’s contested areas, strongly
encourage member States to refrain from aggressive or provocative acts and ensure the
peaceful resolution of territorial disputes.
10. That the General Assembly, commending the brave and invaluable efforts of Malala
Yousafzai and women like her, work together to ensure respect for and advancement of the
education, independence and political rights of women, and to combat all forms of violence
and discrimination targeting women.
11. That the General Assembly, noting the recent decision of the International Court of Justice,
rejecting the legitimacy of the Japanese scientific whaling program, urge other nations to
curb their traditional and other culls of protected and threatened sea animals, including
whales, seals, dolphins and sharks.
12. That the General Assembly, concerned about the continued spread of AIDS and the current
outbreak of the Ebola virus on the African continent, committing to the ongoing fight against
major diseases, such as polio and malaria, pledge to place restrictions upon the antivaccination movements in their countries and to financially support the research and
vaccination of all such diseases.
13. That the General Assembly, concerned by the recent deaths of journalists in Afghanistan and
the arrest of others in Egypt, undertake to strengthen protections for, and also ensure
respect for the safety, independence and freedom of expression of journalists in their
territory.

consumer materials, reaffirm the principles of Article 7 of the International Convention on
Economic, Social and Cultural Rights, and commit to providing resources to ensure the rights
of workers, particularly with respect to fair wages, equal remuneration, and safe and healthy
working conditions in the textile industry.
15. That the General Assembly, reaffirming its commitment to the right to development, as
articulated in the 1986 Declaration on the Right to Development, and the 1992 Rio
Declaration on Environment and Development, commit to ensuring the security of the
world’s food resources from the effects of climate change, wealthier patterns and conflict,
and to ensuring the availability and accessibility of both food and agricultural technology for
all States, including developing communities.
16. That the General Assembly, recognising the importance of good governance, the rule of law,
and the protection of human rights, urge the international community to take immediate
action to protect its citizens from international crime by combating corruption, money
laundering, and human trafficking.
