Research Methods Programme
th
For our last meeting, you are required to put your essay ideas down on paper in a more organised way, drawing on the outcomes of all the previous seminar tasks. You have a choice of two formats, each accommodating different types of thinking and methods of planning assignments; pick ONE.
ESSAY OUTLINE
Make an outline of your essay concentrating on a few key arguments and/or key works or objects. You can either follow the standard essay structure (introduction; main part, divided into different sections; conclusion), or simply list your main ideas, paying particular attention to how they connect and build on one another. You should make reference to the research you’ve already done, and try to critically engage with named sources.
ESSAY ABSTRACT
Write an abstract, i.e. a short paragraph that summarises the aims and anticipated conclusions of your work. You should make reference to the research you’ve already done, and try to critically engage with named sources.
Come to class prepared to read out your abstract OR talk around your outline. Either way, limit your contribution to approx. 1 minute to allow time for discussion.
