Personal journeys essay
You must use Maestro mostly, and at least one other text studied in class.
You may choose to use a variety of other texts rather than just one
supplementary text; it depends on the points you are making and the
relevance of the example.
Intro:
In general, what do personal journeys involve?
State your contention to your chosen topic, specifying any qualifications you
may have
Which texts will be used? State author and text title (underlined), and state
how, generally, those texts are relevant to the topic – no examples yet!
1. Before the change.
What factors are important in forming the individual originally?
Use at least 3 examples from the texts we have studied (2 x Maestro, 1 X
other) to show how characters were formed. You will need to describe what
their motivations, goals and personalities were and use quotes and/or events
to prove your point.
2. Influence by others or events.
What, specifically, influenced the characters? Use a general topic sentence
then at least 3 different examples (2 x Maestro, 1 x other) to show how people
are affected by external people and events.
3. Immediate reactions to influence.
Topic sentence: in general, how do people react to strong influences? Then, 3
examples (2 x Maestro, 1 x other) to show characters’ immediate reactions,
both positive and negative.
4. Ultimate results of the change.
Topic sentence: in general, describe the change that occurs to individuals as
a result of the accumulate influences in their lives. Use 3 examples (2 x
Maestro, 1 x other).
Conclusion:
State, in general, how people are changed by their personal journeys; what
influences are relevant in this change and how, in Maestro, the characters
conclude their journeys: positively or negatively?
