Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Student Task: Why are some people considered more intuitive than others? You are to write an 1200-1600 word essay discussing the following question: To what extent should we consider intuition as a distinct way of knowing or rather a combination of other ways of knowing, such as prior experience, heightened sense perception and an active imagination. Assessment Criteria: see attached TOK essay rubric. Instructions: 1. The essay must be completed individually. 2. The essay must demonstrate correct essay writing format; introduction, body and conclusion. 3. All sources must be referenced according to the MLA standards (in-text/parenthetical referencing and bibliography). See your teacher or student planner for guidance on the correct referencing format. 4. The word count includes the essay and any quotations. Referencing is not included in the word count. Essay Presentation: 1. When you submit your essay you will need to have a front cover that includes: (a) In the middle of the page write the essay question. The title must not be altered in any way. (b) On the bottom right or left hand corner include: Your name Date Essay Word Count 2. Ensure that you have used double spacing and size 12 Arial or Times New Roman font for your essay. 3. You will also need to include a Bibliography. 5. All pages need to be numbered. Essay Guidance: 1. Read and underline the key words within the question. 2. Your introduction should provide an outline of your essay/argument. For example: (a) Introduce what the four ways of knowing are. (b) Introduce intuition as a possible way of knowing (c) State what the knowledge issue is that you are going to explore. 2. The body of the essay is made up of paragraphs that connect each main idea. Your paragraphs within the body could discuss the following ideas: (a) Explanation of intuition (b) How intuition can help us acquire knowledge and be an obstacle to knowledge (c) How intuition is reliable as a Way of Knowing. (d) Relationship of intuition with other Ways of knowing (e) Use examples from different Areas of Knowledge 3. The conclusion of the essay is not a repeat of your introduction. Within your conclusion you need to summarise your main points/arguments and then answer what the essay question is asking. Due Date:
