Lundahl Middle School is a proud participant in the National Junior Honor
Society. Our chapter is dictated by guidelines and criteria set at the national level.
NJHS is a service organization with high academic standards and criteria. We
participate in community projects and also enjoy social functions at Lundahl. Please
read the enclosed brochure for more information!
We are currently taking applications for the 2013-2014 school year inductees.
Students who are interested in membership will need to read this packet in its
entirety and complete all information, including writing an essay. Students will be
notified of acceptance by mid October.
Enrollment Criteria



Applicants MUST be in the 7th or 8th grade.
Students must turn the application in no later than Friday, October 18th.
NJHS membership must be the desire of the student! The student must take
the initiative to apply, rather than the parent. PLEASE NOTE: NO LATE
APPLICATIONS WILL BE ACCEPTED!
Academic Criteria


Students must have an overall GPA of 3.0 in all classes at the end of 6th or 7th
grade.
Students may not receive a Trimester GPA below a 3.0 once inducted into
NJHS.
Conduct Criteria


Students must maintain outstanding conduct grades by receiving no more than
a total of two Does Not Meets during a trimester.
Students must have three recommendations (at least two from a teacher)
based on behavior and academics.
Meetings
Students must attend all meetings unless they make prior arrangements to miss
because of another school function. Times and dates of the meetings will be decided
at a later time.

Service Hours:
Students must participate in 15 hours, 12 of which MUST be performed in school.
National Junior Honor Society has the following ongoing projects that students will
be required to participate in at some point throughout the school year:
 Concessions at Sports Activities
 Ticket sales at Sports Activities
 Peer Tutoring
 End of year Walkathon
Recommendations:
Recommendations will be used as a character reference of who you are as a
person. These may come from teachers, coaches, leaders, or other adults that have
come into contact with you over the years. Make sure to give them the form, tell
them to be honest in their assessment and comments, and have them submit it to Mr.
Mayers or Mrs. Strebler by the October 18th deadline.
Essay:
You will write an essay based on the following prompt. The essay should be
one to two pages. You MUST stay after school to type this essay at school. Dates
for this will be announced on the TV Show and school website. You are allowed to
bring in notes and thoughts to help guide your essay writing, but all actual essays
should be completed at school and saved to the correct spot on the Shared Drive to
be reviewed by the faculty council.
Prompt
In approximately one to two pages, explain what the qualities of leadership,
scholarship, service, citizenship, and character mean to you. Be sure to focus on
your leadership roles and community service involvement. Also convey your reasons
for wanting to be a member of the National Junior Honor Society.
Application Checklist:

The NJHS Executive Council and sponsors will review all applications. Accepted
