POSITION DESCRIPTION Date: 26 July 2012 Prepared By: Head of Sport Development and Performance Position Title: Community Engagement Manager – One Netball Work Area: Sport Development and Performance Reports to: Sport Development Manager Primary Location/s: Level 2, 140 King Street, Melbourne 3000 Reportable Positions: Nil Classification Grade Program Manager Employment Status: Full-time, 12month contract Primary Purpose of Position Work with key stakeholders and Member Organisations to facilitate the introduction of netball to culturally diverse and indigenous communities and people with a disability with the aim of enhancing and changing the culture of netball to foster respect and inclusion and positively influence issues of racism and intolerance in Australia. Responsibilities and Measures Task Measures and Outcomes Program Management, Evaluation, Capacity, Capability • Identify, build and manage strong relationships with key services providers and netball’s member organisations. • Support, inform, align and link netball’s wider strategies to ensure the experiences for diverse communities are considered. • Establish a Project Management/Steering Committee. • Develop an evaluation program to monitor effectiveness and data (trend analysis, future mapping). • Contribute to netball’s commitment to the Australian Human Rights National Anti-Racism Partnership and Strategy. • Prepare reports for stakeholders, including the Office for Sport. • Deliver acknowledgment and publicity requirements. • Input into Netball Australia’s Member Protection Policy aimed at providing safe environments. • Input into Netball Australia’s a Corporate Social Responsibility Framework, Respect & Responsibility Framework, and Racial and Religious Vilification Framework. • Harmony Day • Coordinate netball’s Harmony Day activities using antiracism themes. • Engage ANZ Championship and Member Organisations • Publicity, promotion, reporting and budget coordination. • • • • • • • Page 1 of 3 Extend netball’s reach - participation, talent and fan base. Committee provides input into the development, planning and delivery of One Netball. Strategies are distributed to relevant stakeholders to encourage the inclusion of women in netball. Netball’s National Participation Framework • Develop Netball’s National Participation Framework. • Coordinate a national inclusion strategy for netball that aims to remove the barriers to participation. • Audit current multicultural, indigenous and disability netball activity throughout Australia in both affiliated and non-affiliated organisations. • Analyse and identify gaps, duplications, inefficiencies and areas of under-provision and opportunities. • Liaise with netball stakeholders and relevant external organisations to identify relevant population • Establish links with state and territory member organisations, associations, external providers and schools across priority target groups and geographic locations. • Resources and Information, Awareness and Education Material • Research, identify and develop resources to raise awareness, inform and educate netball associations on cultural and social barriers. • Build upon existing resources to develop netball specific tools. • Include multicultural and disability awareness information in netball’s education for coaches and umpires. • Advocate the “Play by the Rules” education and awareness program. • Coordinate NetSetGO! material being translated into different languages. • Coordinate relevant current or new resources to reflect netball as a multi-cultural and inclusive sport. • Program Development and Delivery • Coordinate pilot programs utilising netball’s NetSetGo! Program in partnership with migrant resource centres or other multi-cultural organisations and Member Organisations. • Conduct qualitative and quantitative survey of participants’ pre and post involvement in pilot programs. • Measure changes in attitude and the numbers of women accessing netball through their local associations/clubs. • • • • • • • • • • A national strategy is developed that addresses the specific needs of people from diverse populations. Barriers preventing women from participating in netball are addressed through strategies encouraging cultural diversity in netball and resulting in an increased number of women from culturally diverse backgrounds participating in netball. The audit will identify the resources and services currently provided, map engagement within organisations and between organisations and the external environment. Links and pathways between settlement services and key stakeholders and netball are created. Relevant organisations implement One Netball to target groups. Local clubs take action to ensure their activities uphold the principles of fairness, respect, responsibility and safety. Associations and Clubs have an increased awareness of social and cultural barriers and ways to overcome them. Tools, resources and guidance achieve a welcoming and inclusive netball environment. Netball is open and accessible for people from all social and cultural backgrounds – increasing number of women in the identified regions participating in netball through local clubs. Every participant is provided with the opportunity to develop netball skills, physical fitness, social skills, sportsmanship and an understanding of the game of netball. Coaching and support is provided to participants. Participants are provided with linkages to clubs/teams/competitions. Qualifications and Experience Essential Demonstrated committed to advancing multiculturalism, inclusiveness and participation through substantive equality in the provision of services to culturally diverse communities. Experience working in community development, preferably with knowledge of the sport and youth sectors. Tertiary qualifications in community development, social sciences, human services or related fields. Proven strategic planning, analytical and implementation capabilities Highly developed networking skills to build key networks and engage with stakeholder groups High level communication skills, face to face, telephone and in written reports and general correspondence. High level interpersonal skills and ability to elicit the cooperation of people. Ability to set priorities, plan work programs, meet deadlines and manage time effectively.
