Name_______________________________

You are going to write a 5-paragraph essay over

“WHAT WENT WRONG with Hurricane Katrina”

Paragraph 1 should have: a Motivator , a Thesis , and a Blueprint . The motivator is an interesting statement to catch the reader’s attention. The thesis is the statement that tells us (in a nutshell) what the essay will be about. Your thesis will be something about “what went wrong during Hurricane Katrina”. The blueprint is the three main ideas of the central paragraphs. (The THREE things that “went wrong” that you are going to discuss in the essay).

Paragraphs 2, 3 and 4 should start with a topic sentence (restating the part of the blueprint), and supportive sentences (examples, details, etc. that help support your statement about what went wrong). Each paragraph should be at least 4 sentences long.

Paragraph 5 - The closing should have a reworded thesis and a clincher (summarizing, interesting statement).

This 5-paragraph essay must be at least 15 sentences long total, and typed, double spaced. It must also be free from grammatical and spelling errors.

The rubric (scoring guide) is on the back. When you turn in your essay, please staple this page to it, so I can use the rubric to grade your paper. (Save a tree!)
