Year 10: Essay Assignment
Essay writing is an important part of most courses in the Senior School and in
exams. Writing a good essay is a skill, which needs to be developed.
Steps in creating a good essay:
1. Write an essay Plan (Outline of what to include in your essay)
2. Research your essay (What books other sources to use. Reference these.)
3. Include quotes from sources (Reference these)
4. Write in your own words (Do not plagiarize, take others work as your
own)
Essay Format
Introduction
Body of the Essay
(Series of paragraphs answering the essay question)
– Each paragraph should have a Generalization, Explanation and Example
Conclusion
Answer the following depending on the topic you are currently working on:
Resources and Economic Activities
“How has work changed over the last 100 years in New Zealand?”
(Use specific examples)
Time, Continuity and Change
“How have past events in New Zealand affected people today?”
(Use specific historical examples)
Your Essay will be marked on Essay Plan (must be included),Content, Examples
and use of Quotes and References.
This essay mark will appear on your final report in Social Studies.
