Explore why this model has been adopted and examine its educational value within the context of a school setting. You should use the framework of the National Curriculum for Physical Education to do this focusing on the four strands of knowledge, skills and understanding and the activity specific requirements for gymnastic activities. Requirements for the assessment The presence of gymnastics on the secondary school curriculum has been in steady decline since the 1980’s. The new National Curriculum provides an opportunity for teachers to re-appraise the value of gymnastics within the National Curriculum for PE. Using relevant literature critically evaluate the value of gymnastics within schools paying particular attention to how it can contribute to meeting the requirements of the new national curriculum proposals for Physical Education.
