Junior year Checklist
February
o Start to search out private

o Begin scheduling visits to 3-5
schools that you are considering.

o Begin to prepare essays for college
admissions and scholarship

o Take the SAT and/or ACT exams.
o Begin to make a list of scholarships
you will apply for, including
deadlines and requirements.

o Obtain a summer job to help save
money for college.
o Consider taking a summer trip to
your top college choices.
Scheduling Meetings
Meetings will be held mid to late
Spring to discuss scheduling for
next school year. Miss Keeling
and Miss Price will be meeting
with each grade level by
department/major. Juniors will
also be meeting in small groups
to discuss their senior year and
college preparation. Students
can also schedule individual
sessions with their counselor if
necessary.
Attention all students:
Anytime that you are honored with an
award or scholarship, please stop by
the guidance office on the 3rd floor to
fill out an informational form so that
you may be recognized for your
achievement!
Attention Seniors:
Please use the time during the PSSA and
Terra Nova testing to finish up your
graduation project packets and any Lincoln
Interactive courses you are enrolled in. Also,
be sure to schedule an appointment with
either Miss Keeling or Miss Price to clarify
and finalize any post-secondary planning
questions you may have.
SAT vs. ACT
o SAT
o Each section has a maximum
score of 800.
o Most schools will combine the
critical reading and math for a
composite score.
o Colleges will take your highest
composite score over multiple
test dates.
o ACT
o Each section has a maximum
score of 36.
o ACT averages the 4 subject
scores for a composite.
o Writing portion is optional, and
each college has different
requirements.
o Tips
o Register early to avoid late fees.
o Take them more than once.

Attention Seniors:
 Your parents (or you if you’re 18)
are required to sign a transcript
release form in order to send
official transcripts to schools. These
forms may be picked up in the
guidance office. Also, please
complete transcript request forms
when sending transcripts to schools.

 Application Fees can add up
quickly. Be sure to check the
websites of the schools you are
applying to in order to see if the
application fee is waived for
applying online instead of via mail
or attend open houses where fees
are often waived. Also, individuals
receiving free/reduced lunch are
eligible for SAT/ACT fee waivers
and up to four college application
waivers. See Miss Keeling or Miss
Price for these materials.
 Applications for the FAFSA (free
application for federal student aid)
will be available after January 1st.
This application determines how
much financial aid you qualify for.
It is important to complete the
application as early as possible
and check state/school
deadlines as these may be much
earlier than the federal deadline
of June 30th. Go to
