10TH GRADE SUMMER READING ESSAY TASK: To write a four-paragraph essay (intro, body paragraph one, body paragraph two, conclusion) that analyzes Kite Runner by comparing or contrasting two scenes or character. PREPARATION: Consider two scenes or characters you can compare, and think about what theme that comparison will help you to show. Read the passages carefully. Note use of literary devices (images, symbols, diction, foreshadowing, metaphor, personification, etc.) Make an outline of your main ideas, quotes you will use, and order of paragraphs. ASSESSMENT: You will write the essay in class on Wednesday. In the essay, make sure you: Draw a comparison between two passages Note a literary device in each passage Use the comparison to analyze the novel Underline the title Mention the author in the first paragraph Use a variety of sentences Use strong words YOU WILL RECEIVE A CLASSWORK/QUIZ GRADE FOR COMPLETING THE ESSAY.
