Macbeth : The Soundtrack! Now’s your chance to put music to Macbeth! As we have been reading, we’ve been highlighting crucial points in the plot, as well as important themes and motifs. Use your knowledge of Macbeth’s themes, characters, plot, setting, and other aspects to create a soundtrack of your choice of songs to the play. What each soundtrack must include: 1. A minimum of six (6) songs 2. At least three of these songs must address a specific theme or motif. 3. The remaining songs can address a point in the plot, setting, character, character, or another aspect of the play of your choice. 4. LINER NOTES: This is the most important part! Liner notes must include track number (in this soundtrack), artist, title, the exact point in the play when it would be begin to be played, an explanation of the aspect of the text being addressed and specific lines and/or lyrics that are especially relevant, and the complete lyrics (if the song is lyrical). *This assignment is due ONE WEEK after we finish reading the play. For example, if we finish the play on Monday, April 11, it will be due Monday, April 18. **As we read, note opportune scenes/themes/etc., for which you can think of an appropriate song. This will make the assignment easier when we finish the play. ***If you need help, PLEASE CONSULT ME! I have a long list of songs that may help you complete this assignment! ****If you’d like, include one or two songs that are the OPPOSITE of what is happening. Think of joyful, cheery songs to play during the darkest points. Please don’t do this with your entire soundtrack, however. Example: Track: 3 Artist: Black Sabbath Title: “Paranoid” (1970) When: Act II, Scene 2, Line 60 Explanation: This song by the goth-like band Black Sabbath addresses the moment in the plot when Macbeth begins feeling guilty for his murderous actions. Macbeth becomes aware and paranoid of the knocking at the door, saying, “How is’t with me, when every noise appals me?” (II.2.61). The line in “Paranoid,” “Finished with my woman ‘cause she couldn’t help me with my mind” is especially relevant to Lady Macbeth, who is somewhat responsible for Macbeth’s eventual insanity. Also, Ozzy’s utterance of “I tell you to enjoy life I wish I could but it’s too late” speaks to Macbeth’s fate, as murdering Duncan has led to his undoing. Lyrics: Finished with my woman 'cause she couldn't help me with my mind People think I'm insane because I am frowning all the time All day long I think of things but nothing seems to satisfy Think I'll lose my mind if I don't find something to pacify Can you help me? A cure for my brain/Occupy my brain/Thought you were my friend [open to interpretation, all are relevant] woah yeah I need someone to show me the things in life that I can't find I can't see the things that make true happiness, I must be blind Make a joke and I will sigh and you will laugh and I will cry Happiness I cannot feel and love to me is so unreal And so as you hear these words telling you now of my state I tell you to enjoy life I wish I could but it's too late Prodigy- Smack My Bitch Up AC/DC: Highway to Hell, Back in Black, Ramones: I Wanna Be Sedated U2 DESIRE OZZY BARK AT THE MOON 2PAC WHEN THUGS CRY 2PAC ME AGAINST THE WORLD BONE THUGS CROSSROADS METALLICA FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS METALLICA THE UNFORGIVEN ALANIS BITCH LOUIS ARMSTRONG Ac dc DIRTY DEEDS BLACK PEASE WHERE IS THE LOVE VILLAGE PEOPLE MACHO MAN ROLLING STONES PAINT IT BLACK METALLICA FADE TO BLACK BLACK SABBATH PARANOID ROCKWELL SOMEBODY’S WATCHING ME MICHAEL JACKSON GHOSTS DIO HEAVEN AND HELL MOTORHEAD HELLRAISER PAULA ABDUL COLD HEARTED SNAKE MARILYN MANSON SWEET DREAMS EURYTHMICS SWEET DREAMS GREEN DAY BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS GREEN DAY INSOMNIAC ALICE IN CHAINS DOWN IN A HOLE OZZY THE ULTIMATE SIN 311 ALL MIXED UP JUDAS PRIEST BREAKIN THE LAW JUDAS PRIEST YOU GOT ANOTHER THING COMIN NELLY GREED HATE ENVY GUNS N ROSES BACK OFF BITCH 50 CENT MANY MEN WISH DEATH DAVID BOWIE MOONAGE DAYDREAM
