Annual Reviews Online Now Available to VIVA Libraries VIVA The Virtual Library of Virginia PRESS RELEASE For Immediate Release: Fairfax, Virginia 7/31/00 Through the efforts of VIVA, The Virtual Library of Virginia, students and faculty across the Commonwealth are now able to search through the online contents of Annual Reviews in a multitude of disciplines. The Annual Reviews provide state-of-the-art reports by experts on the current scholarship in many fields, and are an invaluable support to faculty, graduate, and undergraduate inquiry. In addition to containing the full text of review essays published since 1996, tables of contents are included for 1984 to 1995, as well as previews of topics for upcoming annual issues. What’s hot in Biochemistry? A student can easily browse online the Annual Review of Biochemistry for 1999, and find an essay article by Monty Krieger entitled “Charting the Fate of the ‘Good Cholesterol’” which critically reviews current research on this topic, providing a comprehensive bibliography (over 250 works) for additional reading. The article, in Adobe PDF format, contains all the original color graphics from the print version. In addition, direct links allow the researcher to jump to: abstracts of the cited articles in other services such as Medline and ISI’s Web of Science similar articles in Annual Reviews in Biochemistry a list of recent articles that have cited the Krieger article. In addition to browsing entire volumes, students may conduct searches for authors or subjects. A search on “organizational behavior” in Annual Review of Sociology retrieves 75 articles, covering such diverse topics as “The Legal Environments of Organizations,” “A Retrospective on the Civil Rights Movement,” and “Sexuality in the Workplace.” Faculty and graduate students may wish to be notified when new content is available online. They may easily register for this service, called eTOCs. A message containing the table of contents of the newest issue will arrive in their email inbox when that issue is available online, providing a convenient way to stay abreast of new developments.
