Instructions:
In this activity you will write a description of a picture to help determine your current English grammar
abilities. The results will be used to develop individualized lessons, specifically designed to help you
to grow in your English language abilities.
1. Complete the word bank below with as many vocabulary words as you can think of to describe
what you see in the picture: objects, people, emotions, colors, the environment, actions, etc. If you
prefer, you may use a separate piece of paper.
2. Take out a piece of notebook paper to use for your picture description. Complete the heading:
name, group, and date. Title the paper, “Picture Description.” Use the word bank vocabulary (and any
other words you wish to utilize) to write a 100-200 word essay to describe the picture. Please be as
detailed as possible.
3. Type and email your essay to Ms. Bogert at Ms.Bogert@gmail.com as a Word document and handin your original, handwritten essay and word bank by ______________________. If you do not have
Word, please send your essay in the text of your email.
NOTE: Please do not revise your essay with the suggestions made by the computer software! This is
an assessment of your own personal English abilities, not Microsoft Word’s abilities! Your grade is
based on completion and effort, not perfection! Thank you!! 
