Course Title : Chemistry and Pharmacy of Organic Medicinals III. Course Units : unit – 3 hours laboratory per week IV. Course Description : This course deals with the study of organic medicinal according to their occurrence in nature, their properties, preparation and synthesis. It also discusses the uses and doses of these to humans. V. General Objectives of the course: During and after the course the students are expected to: Cognitive Identify the different organic medicinal substances and products used pharmaceutically and medicinally; Psychomotor Demonstrate and show the physical and chemical methods of preparation, their pharmacologic and physiologic effects the dosage form and dose in which they are used and administered; and their significance to Pharmacy and Medicine; Affective Apply and use the knowledge obtained to execute competence in serving the community. SPECIFIC LEARNING OBJECTIVES During and after the class sessions for the Prelims, the students are expected to: 1. review and familiarize USPF’s and CoPh’s VMG as well as be oriented with the course requirements, college policies and the grading system; 2. prepare ethyl alcohol by fermentation of sugar; 3. prepare acetanilide from glacial acetic acid and acetic enhydrides; 4. perform the experiment on benzyl alcohol & benzoic acid by Cannizzaro reaction.
