ACCUPLACER Preparation
TLC ACCUPLACER Workshops
ACCUPLACER Workshop:
 for students who are taking ACCUPLACER for the first time. ACCUPLACER is the test used at
UTEP for course placement and for the Texas Success Initiative. Students will learn about



the format of the test, the types of material that will be covered on the test, test taking
strategies, and sources that they can use in order to prepare to take the test. (This
workshop does not cover content material.)

Math Workshop for ACCUPLACER:


for students who need a refresher course in math basics before taking ACCUPLACER.
for those students who have taken ACCUPLACER
If you tested into MATH 0300 (formerly BASK 0306), you will take the MATH 0300 ACCUPLACER
Workshop.
If you tested into MATH 0301 (formerly EPCC’s MATH 0300), you will take the MATH 0301
ACCUPLACER Workshop.
If you tested into MATH 0310, you will take the MATH 0310 ACCUPLACER Workshop.
If you tested into MATH 0311, you will take the MATH 0311 ACCUPLACER Workshop.
If you tested into MATH 1320 or MATH 1508, you will take the MATH 1320/MATH 1508 ACCUPLACER
Workshop.
Reading Workshop for ACCUPLACER:


for students who need a refresher course in reading basics before taking ACCUPLACER.
for those students who have taken ACCUPLACER, who tested into Reading 0307, READ 0308,
READ 0309, or ENGL 0310 (UTEP), and who wish to review before retesting.
Writing Workshop for ACCUPLACER:


for students who need a refresher course in writing basics before taking ACCUPLACER.
for those students who have taken ACCUPLACER, who tested into ENGL 0309, ENGL 0310
(UTEP), or ENGL 0311, and who wish to review before retesting.

Study Guides
1) Any study guide for the SAT, ACT, or THEA (formerly known as TASP) tests can prove helpful.
Software
1) The Princeton Review “Inside the SAT & ACT”: 2003 Deluxe
2) Easy Writer software which provides pre-written essays and guides students through the review,
revision, and editing processes. Available in the Learning Assistance Lab (LAL), Room 326 Library.
The Tutoring and Learning Center (TLC) -- Library 300
1) Computer Access
a) If you don’t have a computer at home, you can come to the TLC and use one of the computers in
the Learning Assistance Lab (Room 327). You can access the Websites in this manner.
i. You can take a practice diagnostic ACCUPLACER test (using one of the Web
sites listed below) and discover the areas in which you need to be working.
ii. Once you know the areas on which you need to work, then you can go to either the
Math Room or the Writing Room and ask for help from a tutor with the specific
problems that you got wrong.
b) We also have some SAT software that you can work with if you wish.
2) Study Guides
a) If you don’t wish to buy a study guide, then you may come to the TLC and work with one of ours.
b) If you have questions, then you can go to the Writing Room or the Math Room and ask for help.
