FOOTBALL POSITIONS
PLAYED:
Quarterback, Wingback, Strong Safety
LEADERSHIP:
(ON & OFF THE FIELD)
Always wanting to learn and do more, Marcus was the offensive leader and was as productive on
defense. Because of his hard work he gained the respect and admiration of all the team and
parents. On the field he is in command. He would adjust a player who was out of position or
remind them of the play before continuing the snap. He would remind players of changes that had
been made in the offense or defense during practice. Marcus knows where every player is
supposed to be on every down. Off the field, he displays his leadership in at school with superior
academics. In addition, Marcus’ parents are both in the Army and know what it takes to make a
good soldier and a good citizen, taking on many responsibilities and chores at home, especially
since his mother is currently deployed in Iraq. He is a very conscientious and a very intelligent
young man.
SEASON STATISTICS:
Scored 6 of the 11 rushing touchdowns and threw for a score as well. Although other offensive
and defensive statistics were not kept, Marcus would be at the top in yardage gained and near or at
the top in tackles. Defenses would make significant adjustments to stop him on offense.
SPORTSMANSHIP:
(ON & OFF THE FIELD)
Marcus is very competitive; however, he is as gracious in defeat as he is in celebrating a victory.
He keeps his head up when things are not going well and maintains a level disposition when
things are going well, setting an example for the other players.
OTHER SPORT
ACTIVITIES:
Track and Field; Member of Fairfax Police Youth Club Track Club.
Currently holds 7 team records (50m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, and 1,600m). Voted
male MVP (2007) of team (160 team members).
BRYC basketball (house and select) 3 seasons
BRYC soccer(house and select) 3 seasons
EXTRACURRICULAR
SCHOOL ACTIVITIES:
According to Ms. Michele Carlson, Marcus’ teacher, he is one of the top students academically
and is a leader in class. He is well-liked by his classmates, conscientious, and polite. One of the
notable things Marcus does is to act as a mentor to students with special needs. He assists them
with note-taking and other classroom activities and assignments, helping them to keep up in their
work.
COMMUNITY AND
CHURCH ACTIVITIES:
Attends Ft. Belvoir Church
In the box below, provide one or a maximum two paragraphs describing why the nominated player should be
chosen Player of the Year:
My reason for nominating Marcus Denham, as player of the year, is not only his athletic skills but his leadership on and off the field.
He has demonstrated a high proficiency of skill level in football, as well as in soccer and track. His leadership abilities are just as
important in the success of his teams, going beyond his excellent athletic capabilities. In his school activities, Marcus is also a leader
academically and through his conduct and character. Additionally, he provides support and assistance for classmates with special
needs, helping them to succeed in the classroom as well. Despite the hardship of having his mother deployed to Iraq, he has helped
his dad and sisters with many responsibilities at home, while also finding the time to enjoy sports and other activities as any youngster
should. Marcus is a very talented young man with a bright future ahead of him.
