English I Honors Weekly Letter January 19-21 Leadership Essay of Argument Directions: Compose a multi-paragraph essay of argument that responds to the prompt below. Essay Prompt: Since reading Macbeth and a multitude of articles about leadership, you have defined what it means to be a leader and what qualities a leader demonstrates. As a result of researching these viewed perspectives of leadership, you must choose a candidate who is running for the Presidential Office and argue why this person fulfills the definition of a leader. Write an essay which argues that the individual that you chose is a true leader and should therefore be the next president of the united states. Explanation: Your essay should identify three to five qualities that your leader exhibits and the specific examples of actions that demonstrate those qualities. Your essay should also contain counterclaims and replies to the counter claims. Requirements: An introduction utilizes one of the attention grabbing strategies that we have learned this year. A definition of leadership is also included. A thesis statement introduces your claim in a three-part, parallel statement that distinguishes the claim from counterclaims. Body paragraphs include topic sentences which identify the quality (claim) that the paragraph will develop supported by researched evidence and an explanation of how or why that support illustrates that claim. Body paragraphs contain a counterclaim and a reply to the counterclaim A strong conclusion-reimagines the claim, summarizes and supports the claims, and calls the reader to action to support your chosen individual is a leader.
