ANNOUNCEMENT OF COMPETITION:
Scholarships for South Australian Italian Teachers
and Students of Italian in Year 11
The Italian Didactic Centre of SA Inc announces a competition for all South
Australian Italian Teachers and Students of Italian in Year 11.
TEACHERS’ ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Teachers will need to develop a complete “Innovative Program for the Teaching
of the Italian Language in South Australia” in Italian on a topic of their choice.
The Program must be in accordance with the South Australian Curriculum
Standards and Accountability Framework requirements.
STUDENTS’ ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:
Students will need to write an essay in Italian of not less than 600 words on “The
Italians and the Sea”.
Following are some examples of topics that may be chosen:










Travels, explorations and discoveries by sea; Italian great navigators (i.e.
Cristoforo Colombo, Amerigo Vespucci, Giovanni da Verrazzano, Marco
Polo)
Migration to and from Italy: ancient and new
Tourism (holidays at the beach, beach games, tourist resorts, travel)
The Italian Navy, Italian submarines
Trade and Cultural exchanges by sea
New products, new artistic and literary forms and a new science of numbers
landed in Italy via the sea
Italian history made “on the sea”, i.e. Garibaldi and his expedition, the
Maritime Republics (Venezia, Genova, Amalfi, etc.), sea battles
The sea as inspiration to poets, artists and songwriters
Nautical Science, Italian Shipping industry, Italian aquatic sports, Italian
Maritime Museums, fish of the Mediterranean Sea and the Italian cuisine,
treasures under the sea
Music, songs, films, paintings, mythology
HOW TO ENTER:
STEP 1: The Entrant must complete the Expression of Interest Form included in
this information pack and return it to the Italian Didactic Centre of SA Inc by
4:00pm on 28/06/2007.
STEP 2: Develop Program/Write Essay as per instructions.
STEP 3: Complete the Competition Cover Sheet.
STEP 3: Send entry along with the completed Competition Cover Sheet to the
Italian Didactic Centre of SA Inc by 4:00pm on 27/09/2007.
PRIZE DETAILS:
One winner will be selected in each category (Teacher/Student) and will be
awarded with a Scholarship for an Italian Language and Culture Course in
Italy.
The prize includes:
 Return Economy Airfares to Italy (One Teacher/One Student)
 Course Fees at an Educational Institution in Italy (Details To Be Advised)
 $500 Spending money
TERMS AND CONDITIONS:
1. Information on how to enter and prize details form part of the Condition of Entry.
2. The Promoter is the Italian Didactic Centre of SA Inc (Centro Didattico), Australian
Business Number: 84 282 830 629.
3. Entry to this competition is free.
4. Entry is limited to South Australian residents only.
5. Entry is for current Registered Teachers with the Teachers Registration Board of
South Australia and for Students studying Italian in Year 11 in South Australia.
Employees and immediate families of the Promoter and associated agencies are
ineligible to enter. This is a competition of skill and chance plays no part in
determining the winners.
6. To qualify, Entrants must complete the expression of interest form and fulfill all
requirements. Entrants who qualify for entry will be entered into the competition
when the form is submitted. Expression of Interest Forms must be received by the
Promoter no later than 4:00pm on 28/06/2007. Entrants must have a valid, Teachers
Registration with the Teachers Registration Board of South Australia or be a
Student currently studying Italian in Year 11 at the time of judging to be eligible to
win a prize.
7. The Promoter reserves the right at anytime, to verify the validity of entries and
Entrants (including an Entrant’s identity, age and place of residence) and to
disqualify an Entrant who submits an entry that is not in accordance with these
Terms and Conditions.
8. All participants are requested to send their entries to the Promoter by mail or in
person along with the completed cover sheet. They are also required not to write
their names on their entries or place any other mark that may lead to their
identification. Entries must be received by the Promoter by 4:00pm on 27/09/2007.

conditions will not be eligible to win. No responsibility is accepted for late, lost or
misdirected entries. Valid entries will be judged and the entries judged to be most
creative will be selected as the winners. Judges’ decision is final and no
correspondence will be entered into.
Any correspondence on behalf of the Entrant will be sent to the School.
Winners will be notified by mail and prizes will be awarded on 27/10/2007. The valid
entries judged to be the most creative will win. The prize includes: a Scholarship for
an Italian Language and Culture Course at an Educational Institution in Italy,
Return Economy Airfares to Italy, Course Fees and $500 spending money. Other
spending money, meals, transfers, insurance and other ancillary costs are the
liability of the winners. The prize is not transferable, upgradeable or exchangeable
and cannot be taken as cash. Prize is valid for travel from December 2007 to May
2008.
The Promoter will not be liable for any loss or damage which is suffered (including
but not limited to indirect or consequential loss) or for personal injury which is
sustained as a result of taking any of the prizes, except for any liability which cannot
be excluded by law.
On return to Australia, the winners must provide the Promoter with a written
evaluation on their experience in Italy and attend an interview at the Italian Didactic
Centre of SA Inc.
It is the responsibility of the winners to ensure that they are aware of any health
requirements for their travel destinations and to ensure that they carry all necessary
vaccination documentation.
It is the responsibility of the winners to contact the airline prior to travel to ensure
the scheduled departure time has not changed.
If any prize (or any part of any prize) is unavailable the Promoter in its discretion
reserves the right to substitute the prize (or that part of the prize) with a prize of
equal value and or specification.
In the event for any reason whatsoever the winners of the prize cannot or does not
take the prize or an element of the prize, on the date stipulated by the Promoter,
then that element of the prize will be forfeited by the prize winners and the prize will
be awarded to the next valid winning entrant.
If for any reason this competition is not capable of running as planned for any
causes beyond the control of the Promoter, the Promoter reserves the right in its sole
discretion to cancel, terminate, modify or suspend this competition.
It is the responsibility of the Entrant to ensure that they have valid passports, visas
and re-entry permits which meet the requirements of immigration and other
government authorities. Any fines, penalties, payments or expenditures incurred as
a result of such documents not meeting the requirements of those authorities will be
the winners’ responsibility. The Promoter does not warrant the accuracy of such
information and accept no liability for any loss or damage, which the winners may
suffer in reliance on it.
All entries become the property of the Promoter who may use them for teaching
purposes and/or future exhibitions.
The Promoter collects Entrants’ personal information in order to conduct the
competition. If the information requested is not provided, the Entrant may not
participate in the competition. By entering the competition, unless otherwise
advised, each Entrant consents to the information they submit with their entry being
entered into a database and the Promoter and its related bodies corporate may use
this information in any media for future promotional, marketing and publicity
purposes without any further reference, payment or other compensation to the
Entrant including sending the Entrant electronic messages. Promotion will be stored
at the office of the Promoter.
