PXCSF Spring Meeting Notes 5/8/2015 PXCSF Mission Statement The Pocatello Cross Country Ski Foundation is a non-profit organization committed to promoting and improving Nordic skiing for all levels of experience in Pocatello. We believe that a quality ski experience for novice and expert skiers depends on well maintained trails with excellent grooming. PXCSF assists the City of Pocatello operate Mink Creek Nordic Area with volunteer labor and equipment for trail maintenance and grooming. PXCSF also promotes local skiing through events such as the Potato Cup race, Fun Race Series and fall Trail Runs with volunteer work days. We also support both masters and junior ski programs based on interest. Major Sponsors: Old Town Embroidery, Pocatello Running Company, Southeast Idaho Gastroenterology, Bingham Memorial Hospital, Barrie’s Ski and Sport. Please Thank and Support these businesses for their continued generous support. Current PXCSF Update and Future Goals: Short Term Goals: Updated old Ginzu for 2015 with one new actuator (still have one original) Thanks to Valerie Gill’s grant expertise we’re likely going to be awarded a grant for $860 for a new chainsaw and tree trimmer for $160 matching funds. Good job Val! Barrie’s Ski and Sport is once again storing the snowmobile saving us several hundred this summer. Dave Roy and I will transport in early May; if you have a car trailer and want to lend a hand we could use your help. Long-Term Goals: New snowmobile trailer; 1st Priority. We will apply for a grant this fall ($5000 range) New Ginzu within a year or two; 2nd Priority Solar lights for the trails; Bill Woodhouse is researching. Financial Update: Valerie Gill Activity since January, 2015 Expenses Grooming equipment Maintenance: $424.84 (Ginzu parts, Sherpa wheels) Gas: $18.27 Income Memberships: $135.00 Balance $2,201.54 Grants Still waiting on reimbursement from last year Snowmobile Trailer: $2,500 match required City Update: Lance Clark The 3 week season was a challenge financially and managerially. Total revenue was under $4000. Just 42 season passes issued, down over 50% from 2014 (200 is a good year). Of the 42 passes $1500 was discounted for work hours. Season pass revenue was less than $2000. 11 days with 5th grade classes. Annual maintenance is typically in the $10,000 range. This year was no exception. There is a grant to grade the remaining upper trails in 2015. This will be done by a city crew or a contractor. The city put in a $25,000 grant for fall 2015 to install a double vault toilet adjacent to the parking lot. The master plan was approved by the Forest service. It is doubtful a push to expand or build a new facility will be successful unless we string together a few good years. June 27, 2015 Pebble Creek Mountain Run Troy Neu tneu@oldtownembroidery.com Race starts at 3PM. $20 pre-register, $30 after June 13th. There will be a $25 gift card from the Bridge for any man or woman who set a course record for the Skyline leg of the race. Could use 6 volunteers to help with registrations, timing and aid stations. Anyone who is able to help come up with draw prizes for after the races would be doing me a huge favor! 2015 Trail Run Series 2015 Trail Run Series The dates for the races are October 10th and 24th and will be in conjunction with the work days. Looking for 6 people willing to help with registration, timing and sweeping. Please contact Roger Schmidt at schmroge@isu.edu if you have any questions. Grooming Coordinator: Insert Tim Safford’s Name Here Volunteer Groomers: Dave Roy, Lance Roberts, Bill Skerjenc, Tim Safford, Mike Krumberger, Steve Preston, Jeff Brandt and Randy Anderson. Also, clutch hitter Phil Leavitt was available on-call several times to fix wiring and Ginzu actuator issues saving several grooming days. THANKS! Despite the short season PXCSF groomed around 50 hours!!! Potato Cup Update: Randy Anderson Not sure what the future of this race is. We are going to schedule next year’s race but may return to the old 15K Skate-only format or cancel altogether. We had several participants donate their registration fees: Jerry Downey has info. Next year add No Refunds on registration page and mail checks to Valerie Gill. Wednesday Night Fun Race Series We held 2 Fun Races on skis including the New Year’s Day pursuit. Had 3 Fun Races in Pocatello, 2 with Skierg and one with just excellent food and beer. Dryland Training Lack of interest in 2014, any volunteers to be ringleader for this 2015?
