The Crucible Persuasive Essay
Directions: Write a five paragraph persuasive essay on the following essay. You will be
given a planning sheet and an outline that we will work on in class to help you with the
writing process.

Prompt:
Abigail William’s faults are quite obvious throughout the play and she definitely deserves
a main portion of the blame for the events that occurred in The Crucible, but she could not
have led so many people to their deaths alone. The actions of several other characters in the
play also deserve some of the blame. In a five paragraph essay, decide which three
characters, you may use Abigail, are most deserving of the blame for the outcome of the
play.
Essay Requirements:








Essay must have a 5-paragraph structure – intro., body, and conclusion
Your essay must use one direct quote per body paragraph to support each topic
statement
Quotes must be properly introduced and cited. You must also explain how each
quote supports your thesis/claim statement.
Your essay should have varied sentence structure and vocabulary.
Make sure you proofread for correct grammar and spelling.
Please make sure you are writing the essay in present tense.
Do not write in first or second person.
