ONGOING PROJECTS The Government of India is currently providing assistance for raising/strengthening/construction of embankments in Nepal along Lalbakeya, Bagmati and Kamala River, for the purpose of fold mitigation in both countries. The detailed status of the embankment of these rivers is as under: (i) Kamala River The embankment work along the right bank of Kamala river along the from the border up to Ch. 5.50 Km is completed. The main flow of the Kamala river is along right embankment and may pose a threat to it during high flood. The construction along the banks of the river has been completed upto 53 Km. (ii) Bagmati River: The construction work along the right bank of the river has been completed upto 25.77 Km. During the field visit of Bagmati river on June 20, 2011 by the Joint Committee on Inundation and flood Management (JCIFM), the four work packages approved during the third meeting of JCIFM along the right bank of Bagmati river totaling 20.32 Km were found to be nearing completion. During the 5th meeting of JCIFM, held on June 18-23, 2011 the committee instructed that all the ongoing works be completed as per the contract schedule. The ongoing works were found to be satisfactory. (iii) Lalbakeya River: The last field visit of Lalbakeya embankment works took place on June, 20, 2011. The committee visited the works ongoing at Ch. 23.00 Km of the right bank and proceeded downstream to Ch. 0.00 Km. The construction work along the both banks of the river has been completed upto 52.03 Km. (iv) Khando River: The proposal for the embankment of Khando River is finalized and the construction work is to be started.
