“Two words”: Words and Tattoo Assignment
You have just read the story “Two Words” by Isabel Allende. Are you frustrated because the story
left you hanging? Are you wondering what words Belisa Crepusculario gave the Colonel? What
words could possibly have that kind of effect? Your task is to answer some questions the story
leaves unanswered. What are the two words? Why would these words change the Colonel so
drastically?
OBJECTIVE:
1. With your assigned partner/s, work to determine what words Belisa gave the Colonel. The
words you choose should logically follow the story and you must be able to rationally
defend your selection. You should take notes while discussing the possible words (you will
turn in your notes). Your notes should describe of the decision process which you will
explain in:
 Paragraph #1: Specifically describes why you chose the words for the Colonel;
Incorporate evidence from the story that supports your choice – use quotes and text
from the story
2. The Colonel was so intrigued by the words he wanted to have them tattooed on his chest so
he would never forget them. You must design a tattoo that would appropriately represent
the words and look good on the Colonel.
3. Upon completion of your visual complete the next step in the written portion of the
assignment:
 Paragraph #2: Vividly describe and discuss the tattoo that you have designed and
why.
