Book Report Options
Write a standard book report. Using the given format, you will write a standard book report must turn in
a hand-written sloppy copy with final draft
Create an original book cover. You will create a book cover for the book. You must have a picture/
design which is done in color. You will also include a summary of the story and a written description of
the author.
Create a comic strip. You will create a 12 slide (minimum) comic strip of the story. The pictures must be
in color and have captions. The pictures/captions should provide a summary of the story.
Make a mobile. Create a hanging mobile of the story (try a spiral). You can include important characters,
important words, themes, etc. You will also hand in an explanation of the words or pictures that summarize
the story.
Create a newspaper for your book. Write at least four articles: one that summarizes the plot, one that
covers the weather in the story, and a feature story on one of the more interesting characters. Include an
editorial and a collection of ads that would be indicative of the story.
Make a time line of all the events in the book. You must include at least 15 main events. You may do
this in Power Point or Microsoft excel if you feel more comfortable doing this on the computer.
Choose a quote from a character. Write how the character did/didn’t live by that motto and why it would
or wouldn't be a good motto by which to live your life. Your explanation should be one page typed.
Create a Venn diagram to illustrate similarities and differences in the traits of two of the main
characters You must have at least seven similarities and differences for each character. Also include a
written summary of the story.
Create a diary or journal and write at least five entries that might have been written by a character
of the book you just read. The entries should use details to summarize the story. Each entry should be at
least ½ a typed page in length.
Character Business Cards – Create business cards for two of the main characters in the book. You will
also need to hand in a one or two paragraph summary of the story.
Character Resume –Create a cover letter and resume for the main character in the story. Imagine what
type of job they would apply for if they were part of our world today.
Construct a diorama (three-dimensional scene which includes models of people, buildings, plants, and
animals) of one of the main events in the book. Include a typed description of the scene and a paragraph
summary of the book.
Travel Brochure Create a picture brochure with captions promoting the book you read. Include written
descriptions of the characters, setting, plot, and themes in the brochure. Make it so interesting that a
classmate will want to read the book!!! This should be in color.
Write about one of the character's life twenty years from now. Include any old or new characters you
choose but make sure to keep the plot of the book in mind. This should be at least one typed page in
length. The introduction should summarize the story. Turn in hand-written sloppy copy with final draft.
Draw five pictures that illustrate the story best and write captions (at least one paragraph for each).This
must summarize the story.
Write a song about a character or a situation that occurred in the book. To add more technology,
record your song at home and bring it in on a CD or tape. Include the lyrics written/typed.
Create a Road Map of your book. See Mrs. Walsh before you begin reading the book!
Write a paper about the values and ideas of the main character. Think about the character’s morals
and beliefs and write how your’s compares and/or contrasts to those morals and beliefs. Your paper should
be at least 1 page in length. Turn in hand-written sloppy copy with final draft.
Paper Dolls Fold and cut out a form of paper dolls… approximately eight. Describe in writing the
characters, setting, and plot of the book you read.
Postcard On the front of the postcard (get paper from Mrs. Walsh) draw a scene or the setting for the
story. On another sheet of paper, write a letter that retells the story beginning, middle, end (exposition,
climax, and resolution).
News Article Recount the events of the story as a reporter for a national magazine: must be at least one
page. Turn in hand-written sloppy copy with final draft.
Author’s Purpose Explain the author’s purpose in writing the book using information and themes from the
book in four-five paragraphs. Must have hand-written sloppy copy.
Bookmark Create a colorful bookmark with six-eight symbols from the story; drawn and defined in
writing. The written descriptions must summarize the story.
Sculpture Create a sculpture of a character using any combination of soap, wood, clay, sticks, wire, stones,
or any other chosen object. The written summary of the story should include an explanation of how this
character fits into the story.
Model of setting Create a scene from the story. Include a written summary of the story and an explanation
of this particular scene.
ABC Book Create an alphabet book retelling the story by using all letters of the alphabet. You must
include every letter and be creative how the harder letters are tied into the story. You will need to have
each page illustrated.
Remember that all book report activities must include a summary
of the story (characters, setting, plot) that is handwritten or typed.
Include the title of the book and the author. The standard book
report must be handwritten, edited by you and someone else, and
turned in with a final copy that is either handwritten or typed.
