Mowat Middle School Required Summer Reading Program 2012 For rising 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students The summer reading program at Mowat Middle School is designed to stimulate the imagination and to guide students toward literature that will serve as a basis for classroom discussion and activities. Sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students are required to read at least two books from the provided list and complete either two written book reports or two oral book chats. The list is composed of a wide variety of favorite authors. We ask that you review it with your son or daughter to identify titles that are appropriate to his or her reading ability and maturity level. Since reading is the single most important factor attributed to school success, we hope that students will use the list as a starting point and choose other selections to read during the summer. Students will need to bring their book reports or book chat form to their 6th grade reading teacher or 7th or 8th grade language arts teacher by Friday, August 24, 2012. The graded book reports will be counted as each student’s first summative grades. These two grades will also count as part of the requirements for a student to participate in the first nine weeks reading reward activity. The Mowat Media Center will be open for book check on Mondays from 9:00 A.M. – 12:00 P.M. on the following dates: June 18 and 25, July 9 and 23, and August 13 **We have supplied this list to Books-A-Million so that they may have these books available for purchase.
