The key goal to informative speaking is to choose a concept that would provide information to your target audience(not the instructor). An informative speech does not have the goal of changing the minds of your audience. You will be required to choose a topic based on class discussion. Remember, the topic must be interesting to your audience(you are not reading or simply giving a lecture). You will need to provide two pieces of evidence to support your premise. You must have at least two visual aids in your presentation. You will also provide a work cited page as a separate attachment to your outline. 2 PRESENTATION #2-PERSUASIVE PRESENTATION TIME REQUIREMENT: 6-7 MINUTES VISUAL AIDS: 4 (one per main point) OUTLINE: YES SPEECH ASSESSMENT: YES(due class period after presentation) REQUIREMENTS: This speech is designed to persuade your audience to alter/change an existing attitude or belief which is a concern to your audience or community. You should choose a topic area you feel strongly about. But you should make every effort to tell your audience something new about a particular topic. Do not simply tell us about the pros or cons about a typical subject (abortion,drugs,STD’s,etc.); provide a different angle or concept to the subject are you are going to discuss. You will be required to cite four (4)different sources throughout your speech. These sources may include (but not limited to books,periodicals, mass communication tools)or other sources recommended by the instructor. You will use the Problem-Solution pattern in your speech. You must have a work cited (bibliography) page attached separately to the outline. You will have different types of visual aids for each main point in your presentation. COMMENTS: SPEECH ASSESSMENT 12 You will be required to do an assessment of your performance after each presentation. Assessments will be 1.5-2 pages. The assessment will consist of four paragraphs typed double-spaced. Paragraph #1 will be a summary of your speech including topic, visual aids, sources utilized in the speech. Paragraph #2 will be an analysis of the strength(s) of your speech. You will be required to provide details from your performance to justify your response. Paragraph #3 will be an analysis of the area(s) of improvement of your speech. “Tell” me how you will improve your public speaking skills in the future. Paragraph #4 will be your overall impressions of your speech which includes a section on what grade you should receive on the presentation and why. VISUAL AIDS 1. No speaker will be allowed to bring any weapons,alcohol, 13 drugs or drug components. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED OR TOLERATED. IF THESE ITEMS ARE USED THE STUDENT WILL FAIL THE PRESENTATION AND WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE CLASS. 2. Make sure you always have a back-up plan in case the primary source does not work. 3. NEVER NEVER NEVER pass out anything during a speech. If you are going to use a handout make sure you make enough for everyone in the class. Highlight the area(s) that you want the class to see and point them out during the speech. 4. If an object is too small for everyone in the class to see,DON’T USE IT!!! 5. If you are using a poster request the use of an easel. 6. NEVER NEVER NEVER use the marking board. hard to see and looks unprofessional. It is too 7. If you need any assistance from me (copies,markers, transparencies) you need to give me at least 24 hours notice prior to the speech. If you do not do this,I will not provide any assistance to you. 8. Powerpoint requirements: A. Every slide needs to have text,title,and pictures. B. You need a transition between each slide. C. Make sure everyone in the class can clearly identify both pictures and text. Use the proper color and size combination. D. Always check your slides on the equipment in the classroom at least one day before the speech. This will ensure you that your presentation will work properly the day of the speech. If your slides do not function properly on the day of the presentation,you will still be required to give you presentation. 9. Overheads: A. Have no more than eight lines of text on the 14 transparency. The more text you have the more difficult it is to understand. B. Place the machine far enough back in the room so the entire audience can see the projection clearly. 10. You are strongly encouraged not to directly use a From the internet (FACEBOOK,YOU TUBE,ETC.)
