PRESENTATION #1:INFORMATIVE PRESENTATION
TIME REQUIREMENT:
VISUAL AID:
OUTLINE:
SPEECH ASSESSMENT:
4-5 minutes
1 MINIMUM PER MAIN POINT
YES
YES(due class period after presentation)
REQUIREMENTS:
This presentation will demonstrate the concepts of
informative speaking. The key goal to informative speaking
is to choose a concept that would provide information to
your target audience(not the instructor). An informative
speech does not have the goal of changing the minds of your
audience. You will be required to choose a topic based on
class discussion. Remember, the topic must be interesting
to your audience(you are not reading or simply giving a
lecture). You will need to provide two pieces of evidence
to support your premise. You must have at least two visual
aids in your presentation. You will also provide a work
cited page as a separate attachment to your outline.

PRESENTATION #2-PERSUASIVE PRESENTATION
TIME REQUIREMENT: 6-7 MINUTES
VISUAL AIDS:

OUTLINE:
YES
SPEECH ASSESSMENT: YES(due class period after presentation)
REQUIREMENTS:
This speech is designed to persuade your audience to
alter/change an existing attitude or belief which is a
concern to your audience or community. You should choose a
topic area you feel strongly about.
But you should make
every effort to tell your audience something new about a
particular topic. Do not simply tell us about the pros or
cons about a typical subject (abortion,drugs,STD’s,etc.);
provide a different angle or concept to the subject are you
are going to discuss. You will be required to cite four
(4)different sources throughout your speech. These sources
may include (but not limited to books, periodicals, mass
communication tools)or other sources recommended by the
instructor. You will use the Problem-Solution pattern in
your speech. You must have a work cited (bibliography)
page attached separately to the outline. You will have
different types of visual aids for each main point in your
presentation. You will be required to have two (2)
powerpoint slides during your presentation. This will
count as 1 visual aid. Additional visual aid possibilities

SPEECH ASSESSMENT
12
You will be required to do an assessment of your
performance after each presentation. Assessments will be
1.5-2 pages. The assessment will consist of four
paragraphs typed double-spaced. Paragraph #1 will be a
summary of your speech including topic, visual aids,
sources utilized in the speech. Paragraph #2 will be an
analysis of the strength(s) of your speech. You will be
required to provide details from your performance to
justify your response. Paragraph #3 will be an analysis of
the area(s) of improvement of your speech. “Tell” me how
you will improve your public speaking skills in the future.
Paragraph #4 will be your overall impressions of your
speech which includes a section on what grade you should
receive on the presentation and why.
VISUAL AIDS
1. No speaker will be allowed to bring any weapons, alcohol,
13
drugs or drug components. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE ALLOWED
OR TOLERATED. IF THESE ITEMS ARE USED THE STUDENT WILL
FAIL THE PRESENTATION AND WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE
CLASS.
2. Make sure you always have a back-up plan in case the
primary source does not work.
3. NEVER NEVER NEVER pass out anything during a speech. If
you are going to use a handout make sure you make enough
for everyone in the class. Highlight the area(s) that
you want the class to see and point them out during the
speech.
4. If an object is too small for everyone in the class to
see,DON’T USE IT!!!
5. If you are using a poster request the use of an easel.
6. NEVER NEVER NEVER use the marking board.

7. If you need any assistance from me (copies, markers,
transparencies) you need to give me at least 24 hours
notice prior to the speech. If you do not do this,I
will not provide any assistance to you.
8. Powerpoint requirements:
A. Every slide needs to have text, title, and pictures.
B. You need a transition between each slide.
C. Make sure everyone in the class can clearly identify
both pictures and text. Use the proper color and
size combination.
D. Always check your slides on the equipment in the
classroom at least one day before the speech. This
will ensure you that your presentation will work
properly the day of the speech. If your slides do
not function properly on the day of the
presentation, you will still be required to give you
presentation.
9. Overheads:
A. Have no more than eight lines of text on the
14
transparency. The more text you have the more
difficult it is to understand.
B. Place the machine far enough back in the room so the
