For this paper you will choose ONE of the modern day Heroic Journey movies listed
below. After viewing, you will apply the main Hero character and his/her Journey to the
notes that we took at the beginning of the unit. The paper is broken down by paragraph
requirements. You will also prewrite on a thinking map and turn it in with your paper.
The rubric for this assignment can be found at the bottom of this paper. You will be
graded using the 6+1 traits of conventions, ideas, presentation, and organization. You
must turn this paper in with your final draft or else I will not grade it.

Paragraph 1—Introduction. Make sure your introduction contains an attention grabber
and a comprehensive 3 pronged thesis statement. The thesis statement should be the last
sentence of the introduction.
Paragraph 2—Apply the idea of The Hero to the protagonist in the movie. Use the
notes that we took at the beginning of the unit. Please include the proper terminology
when analyzing the protagonist.
Paragraph 3—Choose one of the other 7 main archetypes from our notes and analyze
one other character from the movie. Again, make sure you use the proper terminology in
your analysis.
Paragraph 4—Choose one of the 12 stages of The Hero’s Journey and relate it to the
Journey in the movie. Make sure that you use the appropriate vocabulary from our notes
when you are analyzing it.
Paragraph 5—Conclusion. Restate your thesis here and leave me with a memorable
thought. DO NOT THANK ME FOR READING YOUR PAPER.
A few tips to remember:
1. All papers should be double spaced, with Times New Roman 12 point font.
2. Use proper MLA heading and formatting (no title page, last name and page number in upper right corner
etc). This should be double spaced.
3. The titles of movies should be italicized.
4. Make sure that the order that you present your ideas in your thesis is also the order of your body
paragraphs.
5. According to Purdue OWL, “Create a header that numbers all pages consecutively in the upper righthand corner, one-half inch from the top and flush with the right margin. (Note: Your instructor may ask that
you omit the number on your first page. Always follow your instructor's guidelines.)”. I require that
pagination beings on page 2.
