An unforgettable experience F. 4E Hui Hoi Fung I am a diligent and clever student. I always try my best to do my homework. And I have a close friend, who is a good deskmate, called Chris. My study life is peaceful until an incident happened one day. Everybody was enjoying their recess time while I was sitting in the corner of the classroom alone and got puzzled with my missing mathematics homework. ‘I have really handed it in! Why am I so unlucky?’ I murmured to myself. After grumbling for a while. I dragged to the teacher’s office unwillingly. Soon I was standing in front of Miss Chan’s desk with watery eyes. Miss Chan stared at me hard for some time, and she asked me, ‘ Where’s your mathematics homework? Don’t tell me that you have handed it in.’ ‘ But I did hand it in!’ I cried nervously. ‘Don’t give me such a foolish excuse. I am already fed up with it. I am very disappointed with you. I doubt how you manage to get good results in the examination.’ Miss Chan looked harshly at my pale face. I was very angry and I said, ‘Sorry, Miss Chan! I feel sick and I want to leave.’ Without begging for her permission, I ran out of the office. ‘What on earth has happened?’ I was at a loss when I was going back to the classroom. ‘ I need a sincere friend to talk to now.’ I tried to find Chris but he wasn,t there. I threw myself on the chair and lay on the chairback. Suddenly, when I glanced at the drawer of Chris’s desk, I found a homework book. Out of curiosity, I took it out. ‘What? It’s Chris mathematics homework book ! But he told me he had handed it in. How strange!’ I talked to myself. I opened the homework book but found nothing written on it. At first, I took it for granted that Chris didn’t hand in his homework and he didn’t dare to tell me. But later I knew I was wrong. After a few days, the homework books were returned to us. To my surprise, Chris got back his history and mathematics homework! Before I could look at them, he hid them in his schoolbag. I felt strange but I pretended not to notice that. When he went out for lunch, I secretly took out the books from his schoolbag. Just imagine how shocked was I when I opened the books. ‘ It’s my homework book!’ I was so surprised that I nearly jumped up. I sprinted to the office without delay. I put the books on Miss Chan’s desk and left without saying anything.. Later, Miss Chan called me in the telephone, ‘ I am sorry. I have made a serious mistake.’ At that moment, truly, I thought it’s my good friend Chris who stole my homework and changed the name. But I had no more chance of scolding him for he had left school. I was so sad but at the same time, I was happy that the mystery had been solved, and that my teachers now believed I had dome my homework.
