Select one of the following writing prompts after viewing the Martin Luther King “I Have a

Dream Speech.” You will work on a rough draft during the next class. Please have your classroom journal and be ready to write. (Minimum 2-3 handwritten pages in your journal.)

 Dr. Martin Luther King gave a famous speech entitled "I Have a Dream." In this speech,

King shared his dream of a world where all people lived in peace and harmony -- regardless of their skin color. Write about a dream you have for making the world a better place.

 Imagine that you live in a world where people are separated based on the color of their skin (or the color of their hair, or their height, etc.). What would it be like to live in such a world? How might it change your friendships and/or your family? How would you feel?

How would you respond?

 Write about how discrimination and prejudice impact our world today. Tie in your ideas to the “Big Ideas” in the MLK speech.

 In "The Strength of Love," King claimed that fear was the ultimate cause of hatred, prejudice, and violence. Do you agree or disagree with this assessment? Write a persuasive essay defending your answer.
